Looks like Stockfish 13 would have also played b7-b5 until depth 19. (2 million nodes)

But even weaker engine seem to find it after a few seconds.
So not a very hard position, but one that will induce blunders at low tc.

It needs depth 26 and 34s on my slow machine + slow compilation, from FEN (1 thread, 512MB)
I will try with feeding pgn moves too simulate some hash state, probably this will make it realize slower.

Well, with feeding the pgn and letting each move analyse at least to depth 20 until the position, it even finds b5?? refuted much faster.
But this can happen. It's ofc impossible to have exact hash entries, still surprised Etherals King remained in the Bishop diagonal, though.

Hi Günther,

the next good position to test it with all the TOP-Engines.

Thanks Günther, I will do later with with TOP-100 ...
At the moment I collect such positions!

Best

well, positions happen.

and why top engines?
Cheng 4.40 sees that b5 is a blunder in 2.6 seconds, 4.4 seconds to see it's a HUGE blunder (-6.0) and in 7.37s switches to Kh8, not a big deal. and this is single-threaded with 32MB hash, from scratch
the same version/setup sees Ne7+ in about half a second, +4.0 score in 1 second, +7.5 in 6.
I'm pretty sure there are weaker engines out there that will find this even faster.
also - I'm quite sure Ethereal itself will find that move (after b5??) quickly

still - a nice miniature

that being said - kudos to Marvin, because you need to get this position against Ethereal first
I'm pretty sure Cheng wouldn't be able to win a single game against Ethereal in a 200 game blitz minimatch
that's what elo is about - to get more positions right than the opponent

challenge accepted :) 4.40 against 12.75, CCRL blitz TC, 8movesGM.bin, 200 games (I don't have syzygy though, so probably a 20 elo handicap for Ethereal)

I would like to use my usual 6 plies start positions (no really lopsided openings in - testing with those since a few years - it's also there for download, but right now I don't remember the link, need to check it first), but we can try both :)

May be my slow hardware even helps Cheng who knows, I will use 40/120s.

Edit
My 6 plies start pgn is just on my download page.

Even lowly Myrddin (8 cores) avoids b5 in less than a second.
