I am very please to announce the release of v13.1 for the Honey family of chess engines which include Honey, Bluefish, Black Diamond, Oki Maguro and Harmon. In addition, the Android Chess App, Harmon Chess which comes with about high quality chess engines. All of the Honey engines come with nn-811243cea2cf.nnue, which is labeled "eval.bin" in the exe's and apps.

I am very impressed by Honey, I tried a few programs and they all failed or it took them way too long to solve this MATE in 72. I am sorry for posting previously mate in 545 or mate in 547, in reality those mates would NOT be solved by any Human in less than 24 hours, and they would have to be either the composer or extremely good at solving Mate either by using triangulation method or any other GM known method that has not been programmed into engines YET.

Note: I realized that the 50 moves rules is probably too short to declare a draw, but I understand that FIDE might change it to 75 Moves in the future. Anyway there were capture of pieces before the 50 moves rule in this case. Now as you can see, the decisive difference is that the 50-move rule only applies if a player correctly claims it, while the 75-move rule applies independently of any claims. So for Engine vs Engine I believe that since Engine can NOT Talk it should be set to 75 moves, NOT programmed for 50 moves, and we will enjoy of more beautiful mate before 75 moves.

I am very please to announce the release of v13.1 for the Honey family of chess engines which include Honey, Bluefish, Black Diamond, Oki Maguro and Harmon. In addition, the Android Chess App, Harmon Chess which comes with about high quality chess engines. All of the Honey engines come with nn-811243cea2cf.nnue, which is labeled "eval.bin" in the exe's and apps.

PS the Harmon Chess app has a new variety option - in any given opening position, it will play a variety of 3 to 5 moves. also added were a new play by search depth and play by node count options All of these settings are in the engines settings. Use the sleep options to avoid instant move.

1. Could you please explain how the options: "Bench_KNPS" and "NPS_Level" works?
2. Are there any option that should be better left default/off when playing against the engine so that the engine doesn't make stupid moves?

Besides: I think in the mobile application the two engines are identical (same size and internal names): Bluefish and BlackDiamond.

odyn1982 - I appreciate your questions/comments.
First in research your question NPS_Level, just notice it is currently not working as designed, but I will release a fix soon
Level 0 means it is turned off.
Level 1 is about 60 NPS
Level 6 is about 120 NPS
Level 12 is about 240 NPS,, and so forth doubling every 6 levels, up to level 60. Doubling NPS at low levels is often to big of jump - it's over 100 Elo at these low levels]. This way a user can more slowly work his way up the the strength level by just focusing on aking steady progress.
( 1.1486 is the base and if you set the exponent to 6, 1.148^6 == ~2.

Level 1 formula is 1.1486^0 x 60 = 60 nps
Level 2 formula is 1.1486^1 x 60 = 68 nps
Level 3 formula is 1.1486^2 x 60 = 79 nps
Level 4 formula is 1.1486^3 x 60 = 90 nps
Level 5 formula is 1.1486^4 x 60 = 103 nps
Level 6 formula is 1.1486^5 x 60 = 119 nps > roughly double the NPS of level 1 ,

Bench_KNPS would be used to help set Level 1 at 60 nps. if For example if Level 1 shows 80 nps, then you would want to raise the Bemch_KPS by about 20% to get 60 NPS - but you don't have to , you can leave it at 80 NPS if want. But if you are playing on multiple devices , say your computer and your android, it is nice for both devices to be calibrated so they both have the same NPS at Level 1.

I would only use Variety in the opening and the switch it off by move 10, as the game gets deeper, especially heading into in the endgame there are more stupid moves it might make.
Adaptive may make dumb moves to get you back in the game, but the user still have to find the right response. It will then make stronger moves.

By default , play by Name Level and Play by Elo have Adaptive turned by default.
Play by Nodes pr PLay by Depth do use adaptive as a default , but you can turn it on.
The Variety setting seems to get dumber and dumber as you head into the endgame. I would use it for openings only to get variety .
Using variety with limits Strength will make limit strength play dumber since Limits Strength settings already have adaptive play - all depends on what you want.

On the Android , there is a Title Bar Scrolling setting, turn that on to see the engine name , Bluefish and Black Diamond will scroll. There is hardcoded "BlackDiamond' line that shows in the center that I need to remove. Right above color settings. All the engine names will scroll on the right side of the "Black Diamond" title bar.

A very minor update was made to NPS_Level - it now works!

The default setting of zero is off. The lowest NPS setting is 1 and it should be 60 to 70 nps pers second. Meaning that will you average 60-70 nps for whatever time control you select - not designed for very micro time controls. Each higher setting will increase nps roughly 15% , so a setting 6 of should be around 120 to 140 nps. etc. You can adjust the nps by adjusting the Bench_Knps up or down to suit your needs

Same link as before, you will know have the most current exe by the letter "a" when it starts on the command line - "v13.1a".

Likewise Droidfish app was updated for with some added piece sets by Bryan Whiteby , Paris and Modern Italian ( a B&W version of Paris) . In addition, I added Berserker which is larger version of the Isle of the Isle of Lewis chess set.

If you will never use NPS_Level, there is no need to download the Windows exe's.
