Re: The longest checkmate question
The longest checkmate "under the 50move rule" is probably exactly in 50 moves no ?
You can probably explore things from here : https://syzygy-tables.info/endgames

Re: The longest checkmate question
The path to checkmate can easily be longer than 50 moves, just needs to reset the 50 moves counter in time.

Surprisingly 8 piece tablebases have not improved record so far!

Re: The longest checkmate question
both are correct, it's a cursed win, i.e. irrelevant to the topicOzymandias wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 12:29 pm Depends on the rules. For example, longest Nalimov was:
[fen]6k1/5n2/8/8/8/5n2/1RK5/1N6 w - - 0 1[/fen]
Win in 262 (as shown here).
But the same position, gives you a cursed win with DTZ 484 here. Take your pick.

Maybe you copied your stockfish commits from someone else too?
I will look into that.

Hello:
https://www.arves.org/arves/index.php/e ... plorations
https://www.arves.org/arves/index.php/e ... n-endgames
The second link contains a position with a win in 584 moves. Is it relevant to the topic or not (cursed wins, 50-move rule and so on)? Anyway, have fun!
Regards from Spain.

Someone of this forum posted two articles of 8-man EGTB but I do not remember who and where. Nevertheless, I found them on the Internet:
