Post by pichy »

Movei403 progress 4 6 10 is super strong at longer time control or is it simply getting lucky versus Glaurung 2-epsilon/2 ?

I guess it is lucky.

I did not test it against glaurung2-epsilon/2 but as far as I know movei is
significantly weaker than glaurung1.2.1

The gap in playing strength is not small and I do not believe that changing the personality can close all the gap.

Yes it is lucky, but no other progress that I have tested has come as close in beating glaurung2-epsilon/2 as this progress has

Uri, 40 games might not be much, but Movei403 progress 4 6 10 already beat Glaurung 1.2.1. in a previous match

I did not try 4 6 10 against glaurung but in my tests
4 6 10 lost against 10 10 10

result is not significant enough to claim that 4 6 10 is weaker than 10 10 10 but is enough to say that 4 6 10 is not significantly stronger than 10 10 10 when glaurung1.2.1 is significantly better than 10 10 10.

Maybe your machine does not like glaurung because movei is certainly not significantly better than fruit2.0(I believe that it is still weaker than fruit2.0) when glaurung is significantly better than fruit2.0

3....g6 _a poor answer in this opening system!
5....Nh6 _This move could lead very quickly to a big disaster for black!

This could explain the strange results you get when forcing the engines to use weird opening lines....
Note that Uri wrote that he don't believe your results as the gap between the two programs is big and can't be explained with a super new Movei's personality....

Maybe your machine does not like glaurung because movei is certainly not significantly better than fruit2.0(I believe that it is still weaker than fruit2.0) when glaurung is significantly better than fruit2.0

update

I stopped the match and continued it and now result is 19-19-19 that means 19 draws and 19 wins for every side

time control is 400,000 nodes per move and I am going to continue later.

I used slower time control in another computer that is not near me at this moment and I will see results tomorrow.

You always like to talk bad about HS Openings, but both programs used the exact Mainbook.abk Opening Book, which in reality it doesn't matter which book it was used as long as both openings were used for both sides white and black or Movei and Glaurung

No,I didn't know which opening book was used, but that does not mean that when I see weak opening systems I must shut my mouth because the author is Mr.X or Mr.Y....
In the example I gave you every one who understand a little bit the opening theory will agree with me,take a closer look by youeself and you'll understand....
5....Nh6 is garantee for a doomed position for black, bottom line 8-)
