The top 7 from Stage 2 will qualify for Stage 3.
The top 4 from Stage 3 will qualify for Stage 4.
The top 2 from Stage 4 will qualify for the Superfinal.
The winner of the Superfinal will be the new TCEC Grand Champion.
So this means that it starts getting more interesting from stage 2?

(I'm only now thinking about it as i didn't pay too much attention to the system, in earlier years)

I mean, it's a bit like random games, from mostly the non top players (which provide a lower amount of actual chess interest), and in 2 seperate groups in which nothing can be proven from one group to the other.
And only when they are brought together we can start to see some competition. So before stage 2, it would not be very interesting, except for people with personal connections to the engines participating.

Congratulations to Komodo, Houdini, Naum, Jonny, Junior, Texel & Senpai for qualifying for Stage 2.

Stage 2 is now live and can be followed on the live page: http://tcec.chessdom.com/live.php

This is the first time EVER in TCEC history that a Stage is played without books. Yes, that's right, in Stage 2 the engines are on their own from the very first move.

The rating list has also been updated after Stage 1a & 1b, you can find the new rating list in the archive page: http://tcec.chessdom.com/archive.php

Updated engines for Stage 2:
Hannibal 1.5x12
Protector 1.8b1
Komodo 1318
Stockfish 231014
Texel 1.05a9

Enjoy!

14 came through to stage 2, yet i think it is clear that there are a few which did no participate at all, which are stronger than some that are now playing in this stage. Like Hiarcs 14b, Rybka etc.

Does anyone think this might not be fair in that some programs may be designed to play from a position AFTER enough opening moves, and were not equipped to play the first few very intelligently whilst others are?
