I'm beginning to wonder if the gap between the current Komodo and Stockfish/Houdini is so great that Team K will never be able to make up the difference. Seriously. By the time Team K catches the current versions of the other two, they will have moved on...

WHEN komodo wins, does it come about through higher quality chess than Houdini and Stockfish?
If so, there's still hope! Keep up the quality, and solve all other issues without compromising the actually chess quality.

Having purchased 2 versions, I would like to see that happen...but...I'm not holding out much hope.

Well, actually, i agree. If Komodo costs money and SF is free, the one which costs money NEEDS to be stronger than the one tht is for free, at least a LITTLE stronger.
But dose it have some potential due to its playing style and knowledge?

Clearly it's possible for an engine to catch up to another engine ahead of it, seeing as that's exactly what SF and H did to get ahead of K in the first place. The top engines have been playing a game of leapfrog with each other for years now; I see no reason to expect that to change.

What gap?

:-)

Too few games so far to prove anything, but with a reasonably long time control a 4 core, Komodo seems to be doing pretty well. In direct play at faster time controls, we are behind Stockfish 8 and Houdini 5.01, but we have made a lot of progress since the K 10.3 release.

With such confidence and optimist heart, I understand why you manage to keep Komodo at top level, no matter the others says.

Can someone shed some light, please? I see that from Graham's picture, Komodo 10.3 played 572 games but on the CCRL page, it played only 426 games. I was therefore lead to think that the CCRL web page wasn't refreshed to the latest results, however this hypothesis is invalidated because Komodo 10.3 has a score of 22.5 - 29.5 against Stockfish 8 from the picture posted here, but on CCRL website the score is 53.5 - 52.5 which seems to imply that the CCRL website contains more results than on the picture here which contradicts the hypothesis.
