Is the 40/4 FRC list still maintained ? Would be nice to see Demolito on there. With fewer contenders, it surely would get a better place
4 CPU testing in 40/4 would be awesome too.

Theory and practice sometimes clash. And when that happens, theory loses. Every single time.

I didn't know (or forgot) that it played FRC. I'll check it out.lucasart wrote:Is the 40/4 FRC list still maintained ? Would be nice to see Demolito on there. .

I tried all the compiles on my AMD FX8350, and they all crash. They respond to the UCI command, but then crash when "Go depth 20" is executed.

Before any go command can be executed, you need a position command, and an ucinewgame command. Did you forget ucinewgame ?Modern Times wrote:I tried all the compiles on my AMD FX8350, and they all crash. They respond to the UCI command, but then crash when "Go depth 20" is executed.

I didn't forget it, no. Neither Stockfish, Houdini or Komodo for example require ucinewgame first.lucasart wrote:Before any go command can be executed, you need a position command, and an ucinewgame command. But OK, yes now the AMD popcnt exe works if I use that

Thanks!
Actually it's normal that 3/4 compiles crash on your machine. The 2 Intel compiles are Nehalem and Haswell. The compiler is using all the allowed intel instructions for these machines, so if your AMD doesn't support them all, it will crash. And the AMD PEXT compile is for newer AMD processors with BMI2 (family 15h).
So your machine is an AMD, somewhere between AMD Family 10 (the first popcnt AMD), and AMD Family 15 (the first BMI2 AMD).

You're right of course, the compiles for newer Intels will crash because the AMD does not support those instructions. So the AMD popcnt exe is the right one for my FX8350 and does work, and should also work on my X6 1100T although I haven't tried that yet.
