Post by Sergio Martinez »

Rules

- GUI : Arena 3.51
- Swiss system tournament by teams. The teams will consist of four engines from the same country. The engines that participate in the tournament will have to be classified in a previous classification tournament, that depending on the number of participants will have a system or another (round robin or swiss). In the main tournament there can be more than one team by country (example Germany A, B, C, etc.), the participation of these teams will also depend on the number of total engines.
- Time control: 40/40 (adapted to the CCRL benchmark).
- Ponder: off
- Threads : 1
- Default hash=256Mb,
- Endgame tablebases: Syzygy -- Nalimov -- Scorpio Bitbases -- Gaviota ---64Mb hash
- Resign is set to -5 for 3 consecutive moves where able.
- Updates will not be allowed during each tournament (each division)
- Open to all Winboard and UCI engines (free, private and commercial).
- The similarity tool will be used to determine whether or not an engine can participate (Engines allowed until 70% of moves match).
- Results will be rated only for engines already in the CCRL lists.
- All engines will use the same opening book limited to an 8 move depth.
- Engine authors can either post their wish for their engine to participate or contact through email (sergiomg24@hotmail.com) or private message. I will choose engines by myself too.
-Startdate of qualify tournament: When swiss tournament 40/40 finish
-Startdate of tournament: When Qualify finish

Thank you for organizing all these turnaments. Please join Zurichess, too. Team Romania or Switzerland are both fine.

Nice idea Sergio. I did this in the past and it is a lot of fun, although there are some doubts about engines' nationalities, like if Stockfish is italian or norwegian or Fritz should be representing USA or Czech Republic. What to do with Houdini, if there is no more belgian engines besides Sjeng. Some people who also did this type of tournaments, created a European team for those engines that do not have more partners with the same nationality, but to be sincere is kind of unfair. :)

'belofte' is another Belgian engine.

I have the same doubts as you, so I must think well what engines will play for each team.

As for Belgium maybe we can make a team, because as Werner says, Belofte is a belgian engine, although there are others like Cavechess or Galjoen, so I think we will have a Belgian team in the tournament

Auto team generator

Post by Ferdy »

Long ago I created a tool to generate teams for fun. You can choose how many players in a team and how many seeded players. In a 4 man team and if you select 3 seeded players the first 3 players from a country will be selected and the 4th one will be selected with priority from same country otherwise it will be imported, such that the whole competition will have a close average rating. For larger number of players in a country, you can create more than 1 team.

Code: Select all

TEAM COMPOSITION:

Team 1. Italy
Bd 1. Stockfish 3323 Italy
Bd 2. Equinox 3168 Italy
Bd 3. Chiron 3062 Italy
Bd 4. GIUChess 988 Italy
            MeanRating 2635

Team 2. Belgium
Bd 1. Houdini 3267 Belgium
Bd 2. Fire 3187 Belgium
Bd 3. Sjeng 2859 Belgium
Bd 4. GrayMatter 1181 USA (import)
            MeanRating 2623

Team 3. USA
Bd 1. Komodo 3247 USA
Bd 2. NirvanaChess 2976 USA
Bd 3. Fizbo 2928 USA
Bd 4. DarkTemplar 1020 USA
            MeanRating 2542

Team 4. Russia
Bd 1. Gull 3192 Russia
Bd 2. Quazar 2901 Russia
Bd 3. SmarThink 2850 Russia
Bd 4. Pierre 1185 Canada (import)
            MeanRating 2532

Team 5. Germany
Bd 1. Protector 3052 Germany
Bd 2. Shredder 2953 Germany
Bd 3. Spike 2938 Germany

            MeanRating 2504

There is player_data.txt which contains engine and country, they were not updated but probably useful to get started. Once the data is modified the tool would then be used to create teams.

There are some file output including the team_composition.txt.

You can download the tool from here.
