YLCET Super X1 Live Broadcast Announcement!

Post by yorkman »

After a decent turn-out for the YLCET Season 1 Final I will be rewarding everyone with my next tournament at:

http://chess.my2dollars.ca (there will be no need for TLCV or Livius clients this time so they won't be available).

Move history and PV with boards are all working now. I hope everyone likes it. I think it's an improvement over the previous page.

Here's the details:

Tournament: YLCET Super X1 (round robin)
Start date: Fri. Feb. 2nd, 2018
End date: Mar 1st, 2018

I have previously posted a short survey so that viewers can vote on what engines and settings they'd like. You talked and I listened so here's what you have selected:

Engines: Latest SF (compiled on my dual Xeon with Mingw and gcc 7.x The Ultimaiq pre-compiled version came in at a very close 2nd). 3rd engine will likely be Komodo's latest dev. build after discussing with Larry Kaufman. However, if they release a public version before Feb. 2nd then I'll be forced to use Komodo 11.2.2 for the tournament. One has to keep in mind that I don't get donations like TCEC.

TC: It was a tie between 45 mins. and 60 mins. + 10 sec increments. I haven't decided yet but based on all the results it seems people want to see a similar tournament like the YLCET Season 1 Final I hosted but with latest Komodo dev. included so I will probably go with 45 mins + 10 sec again.

Contempt: 0 for all engines

Book: TCEC Season 10 however I didn't include TCEC Season 9 in the survey and I've heard users liked it better than 10 so I'll go with the S9 TCEC opening book. Alternating colours.

HT: Off
Ponder: Off
Hash Size: 16 GB
Cores: 35 (+1 core for ChessGUI - Dual Intel Xeon E5-2696v3 @ 2.80 GHz)

If you have any comments or suggestions please let me know.

Would be nice to have archive of games, at least of decisive ones - since people will probably not be able to watch tournament 24/7 and miss some cool games because of that. 8-)

That's already available. Have you checked out the new and revised site that I've been working on lately?

You can select from the dropdown menu below the board to view the previous YLCET archive from Season 1 Final. Schedule, crosstable and full PGN.

UPDATE:

Next Friday, Feb. 2nd 2018, I will be starting the next YLCET tournament.

There will be no need for TLCV or Livius clients this time so they won't be available anymore.

Move history and PV will be included now. I hope everyone likes the website better now. I think it's an improvement over the previous page.

Here are the details:

Tournament: YLCET Super X1 and likely X2 (round robin)
Start date: Fri. Feb. 2nd, 2018 @ 12:01 am (give or take an hour)
End date: Approx. Mar. 1st, 2018
Place: http://chess.my2dollars.ca

HARDWARE:

CPU's: 36 Cores -> 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2696 v3 @ 2.80 GHz | Motherboard: Supermicro X10DRL-i | RAM: 64 GB DDR4 ECC | SSD: Samsung Pro 1TB | OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 (slightly tweaked for better performance)

I have previously posted a short survey so that chess lovers can vote on what engines and settings they'd like to see. You talked and I listened so here's what most of you have selected:

ENGINES:

While you voted that I use my own compiled SF version using Mingw and gcc 7.x, the Ultimaiq pre-compiled version came in at a very close 2nd (by one vote actually) and since it's more trusted I've decided to use that instead.) Its opponent will be Houdini 6.0.3. If I receive the latest Komodo in time from Larry then it will be added to the tournament otherwise it'll just be SF vs H6.

TIME CONTROL:

It was a tie between 45 mins. and 60 mins. + 10 sec increments. I'm likely going with 60 mins + 10.

CONTEMPT:

Will be set to zero for all engines (I realize SF defaults to +20 now but 0 is what everyone has strongly voted in favour for)

OPENING BOOK:

While TCEC Season 10's book had the most votes, Jeroen Noomen's TCEC Season 9 book was not listed in the survey however after getting some feedback that many users preferred TCEC S9's book I've decided to go with that instead, at least for the first 100 games.

After the 100 games are done I'll start the YLCET Super X2 as a bonus for the remainder of my available time and use the latest version of Balsa Special (which came in a very close 2nd as the preferred opening book).

I believe this book has 100 openings consisting of 5 moves (200 games), if the games average 2 hrs then I should have enough time to play all the games for for a total of 300 games at 60'+10"). All books will be played with alternating colours.

HT and ponder will be off. 16 GB of hash and each engine will use 35 cores (1 core for the gui).

Here's the full Super X1 schedule for the first 100 games from TCEC's Season 9 opening book as displayed by ChessGUI:

Does anyone have any objections to changing the engine's contempt setting to their default in the upcoming YLCET Super X1/X2 now that SF has its default at +20?

It seems some users would like to see SF use its default contempt of +20 now and personally so do I so unless there's an overwhelming object I will go with the default contempt settings for all engines in this tournament.

Not just decisive ones. Seriously, I also love to watch drawn games. Some
are brilliant stalemates and some are amazing counter punches from both
sides which ends up in draw.

But I noticed all the games at X1 are wrong, because game ends in an equal eval with wv=0.00 or bv=0.00

I think a bug or there's something wrong with the setup.

Decisive games ended when the score was just roughly equal or drawish.
By the way, congrats for the new look of the site.
