When I'm downloading Stockfish 270918 at:
http://abrok.eu/stockfish/
what happens is that it downloads a file named stockfish_18092721_64.exe. When I double click on that file, a black window pops up saying "Stockfish 270918 64 by T. Romstad, M. Costalba, J. Kiiski, G. Linscott" and that was it. Nothing else happens. What are the steps that I need to take to get a usable UCI engine?
Thanks much for your help in anticipation!

Thanks for the explanation! Still I have the issue that the computer shows the file in the explorer as the file type "application" and not as "UCI" as all my other engines that I use. And Chess base doesn't recognize the file as a UCI engine. What are the steps that I need to take to use this file as an UCI engine in Chess Bases?

That's normal.
There is no file type "UCI" because UCI engines are just executables.and not as "UCI" as all my other engines that I use.
Usually, chess GUIs offer some menu item for installing new engines. You copy the Stockfish executable so some path where you want to have it. Then in a chess GUI, click "install engine" or whatever it's named, then a file selector dialogue opens. Navigate to the path where you put the engine executable and select it.What are the steps that I need to take to use this file as an UCI engine in Chess Bases?

I think he has those already, he just doesn't know how to install them in his GUI.
