CEO. Edition II.

Two phases:

-The first phase is a qualifying tournament where the best engines will play to get a place in the team (or teams, depending on the number of participants, level, interest of programmers, etc.) in each country. These tournaments will depend on the number of participants to establish a Swiss system or a round robin.

-The second phase will be played following a Swiss system where each team will consist of four engines. In the same way, the rounds of the Swiss tournament will be established according to the number of teams participating. The total points got, will be computed (not the victories or draws between teams) and the Buchholz Cut and Buchholz Total will be used as a tie-break system.

Software/Rules

GUI : Arena (3.51)
Time control: Adapted to 40/40 CCRL (benchmark).
Ponder: off
Threads : 1
Default hash=256Mb
Endgame tablebases: Syzygy - Nalimov - Scorpio Bitbases - Gaviota. Hash set to 64Mb.
Resign is set to -5 for 3 consecutive moves where able.
Updates will not be allowed during each tournament phase (only when first phase ends and until second phase starts).
-Allowed all Winboard and UCI engines (free, private and commercial).
-The similarity tool will be used to determine whether or not an engine can participate (Engines allowed until 70% of moves match).
-Results will be rated only for engines already in the CCRL lists. (except for private engines)
-All engines will use the same opening book limited to an 8 move depth.
-Engine authors can either post their wish for their engine to participate or contact through email (sergiomg24@hotmail.com) or private message. I will choose engines by myself too.

Rounds: not determinated yet

Until I know how many engines will participate in each qualifying tournament I will not determine the tournament system (Swiss or round robin) and the rounds. Also, if I send private or commercial engines it is possible that I expand the number of participating countries, but provisionally the list of countries are included in this message

Deadline to send updates: Next day February 20

Engine updates are open until the day before each qualifying tournament begins. Due to the number of tournaments (for each country) that I am going to run, I will usually run three at the same time, so until the next qualifying tournament starts you can send engines or updates.

In the same way, you can send updates for the final phase (Swiss tournament) until the day before the start of the tournament.

The tournament will start the next day, February 21

I'd be glad if Minic can play for France.

Best regards

Hi Sergio,

Please consider the latest Francesca (0.21) for England. Who will the other English engines be?

Cheers,
Tom

Minic and Francesca added :)

As for the English engines, at the moment the only confirmed is Francesca, although I usually add engines in case there are not enough.

In the first edition I used 18 engines, you can see the results here: http://swisstourneys.pcriot.com/CEOEd1/ ... ritain.htm

In any case, the most likely is to add Green Light Chess, Colossus, PostModernist, Maverick Robocide and Waster, and maybe any more.

I do not have Hiarcs, with which England loses strengh, but I use the engines that I have. As you will see I use private engines, in this case Waster, which is an old Geoff Westwood engine.

Please give Asymptote a chance to qualify for one of Germany's teams. :) Although its competition is quite strong, looking at the last tournament...

Jumbo would like to play for Germany as well, if possible.
