E8400 CHESS ENGINE PERMANENT LADDER

Hello folks,

Here is a copy of my computer chess tournament files. I usually post it in mz chess forum, but his site is down, so for now i'll postg it here. Hopefully they will find a way into this forum.

The tour is carried out in a very old desktop, HP with Intel E8400, Dual Two Core, (circa 2006). IT runs at 3.15 GHZ, 4 GB RAM, 5 pieces Syzygy tablebase. For the opening, i chose a compilation of all ECO lines. In total it contains about 1,200 lines from 4 to 12 moves.

These games are a very long time control. The shortest games are 90 min 30 seconds increment,so typically this processor goes well into the upper 30 plies per move. At the most common TC (90'59'')this computer touches the lower 40 plies, sometimes before the 8th move, so these moves tend to be quite strong.

There are closee to 800 engines on this tour, mostly compiles from stockfish team. I attempt to keep up with every version they create, including their early experimntal prototypes. My goal is to have every version play at least 30 games, all starting with 3200 as entry Elo. The better a particular engine performs, elo wise, the more it stays active.

The naming convention for these engines consists of initials SF,(stockfish), SFT (stockfish test version), followed by the date in format YYMMDD, then followed by the commit number to 7 digits(commit numbers assigned by github page where their source code resides). For sometime I compiled a few of them with Visual Studio, but I stopped that sometime in August 2019, after restoring my mingw compiler: it produces executables that run with twice or more speed of same compiled in visual studio.

You will also find those compiled as stockfish developmental versions(abrok), with the name as stockfish, date format (ddmmyy),and unix time stamp.

Best used of this game? It is probably for "bookmaking", althought some say the games are also quite interesting from a pure analysis perspective. To each its own, I would add.

Have lots of fun.

Best used of this game? It is probably for "bookmaking"
I tend not to use engine tournament games with small to medium fixed books for book creation, because even strong engines like Stockfish still often play quite poorly when exiting the book. But I do use engine games with less limited books from other sources including playchess, etc.

I think the games are useful for other purposes. I have gotten some interesting test positions from engine games for example.

Indeed, narrow books tend to leave gaps in defense and attack, so i skipped preselection. I use the entire eco system of lines known, as compiled by chess informant. Of course, the disadvantage is that no single engine will ever play but a few lines. To me it is ok.

If anyone wants to have a thorought "opening book" i suggest take a book with the immediate 8 black respones to white as hypothesis to start serious opening book.

I am enclosing here the top 5 engines in my tournment (classified with 30 or more games played) with source files included.

Have fun buds.

Hello folks,

Here is my latest compilation from stockfish testing. It was build from 2 recent test versions and 1 official master from stockfish. This engine probably won't be offical ever, so test it. Per arithmetical addition, it should be about 7 elo pts over official master 3f41913.

Compiled with mingw 9.1.0 but edited with visual studio 2015, if u care to know.

new stockfish master:

King danger: retire attacked-by-bishop defense

In a recent commit, "Introduce king flank defenders," a term was introduced
by Michael Chaly (@Vizvezdenec) to reduce king danger based on king defenders,
i.e., friendly attacks on our King Flank and Camp. This is a powerful idea
and broadly applicable to all of our pieces.

An earlier, but narrower, version of a similar idea was already coded into
king danger, with a term reducing king danger simply if we had a bishop and
king attacking the same square -- there is also a similar term for knights,
but roughly three times larger. I had attempted to tweak this term's coefficient
fairly recently, in a series of tests in early September which increased this
coefficient. All failed STC with significantly negative scores.

Now that the king flank defenders term has been introduced, it appears that
the bishop-defense term can be simplified away without compensation or
significant Elo loss.

Where do we go from here? This PR is a natural follow-up to "Introduce king
flank defenders," which proposed simplification with existing and overlapping
terms, such as this one. That PR also mentioned that the coefficient it
introduced appeared arbitrary, so perhaps this PR can facilitate a tweak to
increase king flank defenders' coefficient.

Additionally, this pull request is extremely similar to #1821,
which was (coincidentally) merged a year ago, to the day (November 23, 2018).
That patch also simplified away a linear king danger tropism term, which was
soon after replaced with a quadratic term by @Vizvezdenec (which would not have
passed without the simplification). @Vizvezdenec, again by coincidence, has
recently been trying to implement a quadratic term, this time for defenders
rather than attackers. This history of this evaluation code suggests that
this simplification might be enough to help a patch for quadratic king-flank
defenders pass.

NEW STOCKFISH MASTER:

NEW MASTER FOR NOVEMBER 23, 2019, commit 1fdf1f1 COMPILED WITH MINGW 9.1.0 WITH PGO OPTIMIZATON, X64 AND POPCNT VERSIONS.

Simplify endgame factor for opposite colored bishops

Stockfish is continually improving. Patches that gain elo in the past may
no longer be needed as stockfish improved elsewhere. This patch removes
passed pawns count dependence in opposite colored bishops scale factor.
We used the mean of passed count pawns (~1.4) to compensate, and changed
the base value from 16 to 22.

Passed STC:
