It was a bad choice for someone who has good hardware.

Big hardware can make people do that, it's not a guarantee of better play, it just gives more options, but more often than not the extra playable options aren't better and the person playing them overestimates the complications they create.

I do not know what kind of chess play every each player, but in general the most of chess player seek for win and not for "better play". It is very subjective thing what is "better play" but the win of a game is rather straightforward thing, Because near every player use the same engines so using a very powerful hardware is the most important viewpoint.

Centaur play (guide machine with your intuition) is -500 elo penalty.
You wouldn't have paid any attention to this position, if you were not informed by someone that state-of-the art engine make mistake and obviously (given this information) you would manually prune 1st move (not by intuition, but by provided information)

No, one of two things are true:

- I'd have spent more than 15 minutes on the position and found that Bg5 was losing and would have avoided it. "I don't need better hardware" stands because if with faster hardware I'd have avoided it, I'd also have avoided it if I let my current hardware analyze for that long (what Dann Corbit is saying, more time = faster hardware)

- I'd have done the exact same thing I did (just, much faster) and wrongly concluded that Bg5 was drawn EVEN WITH BIGGER HARDWARE. In this case, bigger hardware would be useless to me because I wouldn't have known how to use it, as Alayan was saying on the other thread.

Anyway, good work at indeed trapping me, I just want to know if you'd feel capable of driving a game into one of these positions and making me lose live in a game, so we can arrange something. Probably to make it interesting we set some time limits for me based on the honor system, like I promise to never analyze a move for more than 1 hour, and knowing about my hardware and limited time, you drive to a position that makes me lose the game. The kind of game Zenmastur left me hungry for.
I'd be curious to know if your hardware/method would have ever discovered that Bg5 loses. And, if so, how long it would have taken you. Does knowing that Bg5 loses eliminate this position as a test of your process? Or could you carry out your process pretending that you have no prior knowledge about the position?

It wasn't really my intent to "trap" you with this. When this position was presented in another thread, it occurred to me that it might be a type of position that would make a good test.

In TCEC SF hasn't won any game in the last 30 one! But score 37-34 means engines are still within 15 ELO.

My Stockfish search eventually showed an evaluation of -147.xx for 51. Bg5. It certainly loses.

Well it did win one now and difference is negligible. The winner is basically decided by shear luck and choice of openings.

Sure. So let's say it took me 18 minutes to rule out any other alternative except for Bg5 and Ke2 (15 minutes for the analysis, 3 minutes to record it manually, which is what I lose on average.) I have Bg5 as better than Ke2, so the next thing I'd have done is firing up my engine, and check its output for the remaining candidate moves, up to Depth 47.
