Re: Test ... / private versions ... Why SMIRF is different

Especially Winboard is problematic. E.g. for random chess variants it specifies different castling notations without any need. Moreover it is not possible in all versions of winboard to set up a position. If then there is an artificially distinction between 'fischerandom', 'normal' and 'nocastle'. But there is no need for that if compatible X-FEN would be supported. Also in UCI extension for Chess960 a related compatibility error has been made, encoding identic positions differently depending on being regarded as coming from traditional chess or Chess960, which is nonsense.

Thus I intend to extend the old UCI-2 approach to compatibly widen that protocol for a combinded 8x8 and 10x8 multivariant GUI, but writing such a GUI will need a serious amount of time. There is no help. And I mainly intend to write a universal chess engine instead of a GUI.

Reinhard.
