Hello,

I fear maybe this post from Mark Winands inviting authors to write a scientific paper for next years IGCA conference, will get a little bit lost in the Chess Thinkers Forum and, although not strictly about computer chess, would reach more potential authors here: http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15440

Please help me to understand that "invitation".

Probably I have misunderstood, that high level papers are called to be contributed, accompanied by having to pay 180 Euro registration fee, and moreover, if the paper would have been accepted, then finally to finance a journey to and accomodation in China, too?

Hello Reinhard,

Well, I think that Jaap van den Herik has to eat too! :? I suppose you could do the whole thing over the Internet much cheaper, but then it would not really be a conference anymore. And organizing the WCCC every time in Europe is also not the solution as the Americans keep complaining. If you live on the West-coast a flight and stay in Beijing is probably cheaper than a flight to and stay in Amsterdam. Or for Japanese Shogi programmers for instance, the fees are more of an impediment than the distance. I do think the program authors participating in the Olympiad or WCCC events should not have to pay double if they also want to present a paper at the conference, but I donĀ“t know what the ICGA would say about that. I think it might help raising the participance both in the conference and in the games.

Well, probably better don't name it "call for papers" - how about "join an exclusive club of wantless" !?
