I've already done this on Satana multiple times and it is a very instructive work. In the last release, I've used ideas from all of the other data structures and algorithms (of mine) that I've try. Of course it is a time expensive task and you risk to go back to the same bugs anytime you try something else. Bugs are immortals! :)

Saturday August 22, 3pm Boston time (21:00 Amsterdam time)

To connect:

winboard -zp -ics -icshost winboard.nl -icshelper timeseal -fcp ENGINE.exe -fd ENGINEFOLDER -autoKibitz

(for UCI engines, add -fUCI)
It looks like I may not be back home in time for the tournament. But I will leave Giraffe connected. Please join it if it's still connected at that time!

I tried to connect to the winboard.nl server with Xboard 4.7.3 under Ubuntu 14.04, with my engine Sillycon, as guest. I got it working without timeseal, but not with.

Code: Select all

xboard -size medium -zp -ics -icshost winboard.nl \
-fcp /home/lasseh/Projects/FICS/scn058 \
-fd /home/lasseh/Projects/FICS -autoKibitz
worked fine, but not this:

Code: Select all

xboard -size medium -zp -ics -icshost winboard.nl \
-icshelper timeseal \
-fcp /home/lasseh/Projects/FICS/scn058 \
-fd /home/lasseh/Projects/FICS -autoKibitz
When I run timeseal from command line I get:

Code: Select all

lasseh@i7:~$ timeseal
Timestamp (FICS) v1.0 - programmed by Henrik Gram.

  Syntax: "timeseal server-address server-port [-p port#]"
On FICS I have used icsdroneng with timeseal for years, working well.
Is there something I've missed?

Weird. Did you try timeseal from the command line with the requested arguments:

timeseal winboard.nl 5000

?

The ICS is up and running, and its timeseal decoder seems OK. I could login using WinBoard+ timeseal.

What exactly are the symptoms of "not working"? It could be that you have a defective timeseal, but connecting with it from the command line should reveal that.

The message I get is just "Connected closed by ICS" in a separate window.

Code: Select all

lasseh@i7:~$ timeseal winboard.nl 5000
timeseal: dynamic-link.h:57: elf_get_dynamic_info: Assertion `! "bad dynamic tag"' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)
lasseh@i7:~$
Maybe I need to find a more recent timeseal binary...

I compiled my own openseal and it seems to work.

I believe this is the one I compiled - https://code.google.com/p/bics-chess/so ... l.c?r=1120

Simple is the new demo engine I started writing last week, with almost all features disabled. It ended higher than it deserves, as it had to play all the weaker opponents. It really isn't any better than microMax yet. But it managed a nice win in a KRKN ending against Isa.

Zurichess forfeited almost all games on time, usually after 3 or 4 moves.

rpiStockfish (on Raspberry Pi) disappointed a little. At least, when you compare it to rpiTogaII.

Thanks, HGM, for organizing this every month.

I don't know what went wrong with zurichess since I didn't watch the games. If anyone recorded the games I would like some pgns to verify. The same version is running fine on FICS without time issues. Due to traveling, this month I used different platform and hardware which I didn't test before. I hope things will be better next month.

For the game against Giraffe it seemed to play fine, but moved very slowly. It used up about 80% of the time in the first 5 moves or so, and ran out by about move 10.
