"moveerror" in Arena debug log

Post by zenpawn »

Has anyone ever seen this error in the Arena 3.5 (build 2816) debug log?

*moveerror* start square<0 !...!

It appears among the thinking output and doesn't cause the game to be stopped. I'm using the Winboard protocol.

Thanks,
-Erin

I think that is probably more of a problem with the Engines you are using, not Arena itself.

That said, I recall seeing that often when I would play games between MicroMax4.8 and Ethereal6.XX.

In this case, the offending engine is mine. It's a strange message though as I wouldn't expect Arena (or Winboard) to be trying to parse the moves in the thinking output. Also, the moves before and after the line look fine, so it might not be displaying what it thinks is wrong, just the error instead.
