there were positions mentioned in several forums. where strelka behaved similar to rybka.
You don´t ansewered my question: Are you 100% rigth that Strelka
it´s a clone?
There are on CCC some member that are 100% sure that Strelka it´s a clone?

No one can answer that question with 100% certainty as there is not enough information available yet. Declarations of such certainty would be premature either way.

There is suspicion and counter suspicion. People have opinions and always will have. When programmers voice concerns one has to listen. Everything may well have a logical explanation in the end.

There was a method that was described by Dann in the other thread by which more information may be found out. Let's wait and see what comes of that proposal.

Thanks Christopher, was what I needed to hear, at the moment nothing is proven.
What it leaves me annoying is that some people already consider Slerka a clone.
Let´s make what Fernando write.

Hi Fernando,
fern wrote:I believed to date, how candid am I, that every normal intelligent person already knew that you must be considered not guilty until proofs on the contrary could appear. Now I see that in this field of chess computers the very opposite is the norm: you are considered a felon unless you probe the contrary.
Is Trelka a clone or not?
If it is, sooner or later proofs of it will appear. In the meantime decency, trust and simple good will call to accept the claim of the author.
there were a lot of indications elsewhere, but I will collect some new ones.

I just go to CCC archives and compare given positions with Strelka. Of course the score and depth isn't always the same because I can't adjust Strelka's hashsize and we do not know exactly which version of Rybka might be the base of it (if it is) but look at the behaviour of the engine, it looks so extremely similar... of course I will also mention different behaviour if I found one position where that is the case:

let's start:

you see, that the score is bigger, the depth is given bigger and the nps is bigger (on my pc nearly exactly 10 times bigger then the one of rybka 1.0beta, but I will show here original analysis given in CCC, also that saves me some time)

that should be enough for an underpromotion position, we know now that Strelka doesn't know anything about underpromotions. From the top engine, when I remember correctly, except Rybka only Aristarch doesn't know anything about underpromotion.

it's funny that Arena 1.1 corrects here the given score by Strelka, in fact in the debugwindow it gave 29993 for the 2nd last line and 32000 for the last line.
And I know only ONE other engine that gives +32000 when found a mate without taking care of distance to mate. Guess which one...

Yes

The position is too easy for Rybka
It even does not need depth 1 to find the correct move and it does not show
analysis at depth 0.

Uri

in fact Rybka finds that extremely fast

again Arena corrects the score given in the debugwindow, +319,00 should be +320,00

I can go on and on and on and on with that type of stuff, of course you will find another engine that shows same behaviour in SOME of those positions, but for sure not in them all.
So now tell me how you can't get suspicious ? I don't know of any engine that shows so many similarities without having something shared.
As I said several times, the author must explain a lot, these similarities do not look very random to me...

If it walks like a Duck, Quacks like a Duck and looks like a Duck, it's probably a Duck. (Deductive logic)
I see a cow and it has 4 legs. Therefore all 4 legged animals must be cows. (Inductive logic)
What is going on here?

Maybe it's a flying cow that quacks?

Conductive logic......

Well James,

so tell me another way how YOU want to discover clones when YOU don't have the source. The only possibility is to look for anomalies which both engines share. As soon as the number of such anomalies reaches a level which doesn't look normal you get suspicious. And so far I've read nothing that could explain all that.

But when Dann Corbit says that according his opinion this can't be a Rybka and when Brian Hoffmann makes a compile of Strelka and states as well that it isn't Rybka, well then I am convinced that it is no clone. But then I really don't know what is going on, must be the first time that two clever guys producing nearly the same thing independantly...

Hello Thomas,
I belive history is full of instances where 2 people working on the same project have come up with almost identical solutions. I think there was an instance where two people shared the Nobel prize for such an occurance. (not sure ... it's my 66 year old memory again)
In any case I'm all for giving the benefit of doubt untill proven wrong. The operative word is "proven".

Which is the problem?
If I put you a mate in two problem, surely you will solve it, as millions of chess players has done.
Then?
Why you think that every chess player, if artificial, must behave differently OR they are the very same?
That logic escapes me.

My best
