Thank you very much Tord!!

Here directly a few tests and see how Glaurung 2.1 find these problems!
Look out for the different cpu speed,i use normally q6600 @3.6Ghz ,but because the warm weather i have put my clock speed to 3.2Ghz to have a max. load core temps from 50°C.

Thank you very much! I hope that some other programmers take this good example and realize that more rating points are basically meaningless in this chess era, and that the most obvious alternative is improving the engine's style!

Keep up the good work!

Very fast your new Glaurung 2.1. It is still very good in endgames.
And still shows the hash table used in the Shredder Gui. :D

Hi Werner!
Werner wrote:I have 1 question to be sure using only 1 CPU:

What is max number of threads per splitpoint?
This parameter has no effect unless you have more than 4 CPUs. A "splitpoint" is a node in the game tree where several threads cooperate by searching one move each. The parameter you mention limits the maximum number of threads which are allowed to participate at a single split point. The minimum value of this parameter is 4, so if you have 4 CPUs or less, this parameter does absolutely nothing.

It's actually slower than the old, especially in the middle game, because the evaluation function is bigger than before.
It is still very good in endgames.
Yes, the endgame is still Glaurung's strongest phase of the game, I think. The program doesn't have very much endgame knowledge, but the search seem to be particularly efficient in the endgame.

Thanks Tord for yet another great release :D

Thank you very much for this super entertaining engine.

One little issue is that in my wide screen laptop (1280*768) the parameters window in Fritz GUI is too high, I can't see it completely. But sure this is more related to Chessbase than to Glaurung because in Arena the window has scroll bars.

Right now it is playing a 20 games match vs HIARCS 12 MP and Glaurung wins 3-2 no draws, of course.

It seems something wrong in my system with the glaurung_2_1_x64_EM64T.exe engine. I haven't probed AMD version because is speed equal in my system than JA version (Benchmark made in Fritz GUI).

I'm not sure what is exactly but it is something with the result of the game. In the next game in ICC seems Glaurung to have resigned in a winning position:

The same happened in a match vs HIARCS in Fritz GUI. Although the results were well saved in the database, the overall result, while the match was playing, was incorrrect.

Re: Glaurung 2.1

Hallo Jésus,

It is very strange, unfortunately it is difficult to test for me because I only can use Jim's 32-bit version and on my old computer I just don't get into won positions...

I was wondering were the games stored in the your own GUI database, MyInternetMachineGames.cbh correctly? Did the GUI store a 0-1 result, but on Playchess it is 1-0 because the GUI resigned?

I tried a game just now with the 32- bit version, lost against Naum on a fast Core 2 Duo Q6700, Glaurung resigned according to the rules.

Maybe there is some problem with tablebases, just a wild guess? Only the Fritz GUI uses the tablebases, Glaurung uses some bitbases that it generates on start-up, I think only for KPK at least the previous Glaurung did, I have not yet checked new Glaurung 2.1. But I really don't know what could cause this.
