Handicap match: Rybka 3 and GM Dzindzidashvili started!

Hi all,

The handicap match between Rybka 3 and GM Roman Dzindzidashvili has started. The time control is 30 mins and 20 seconds per move. Rybka plays black in all games and in each game removes one of its pawns. The games can be seen in the broadcast room at PlayChess (I couldn't find it at the Chess Assistant Club site, as in the past).

Yes, he missed his chance in this position. Twice actually, since 25.Bg5 here, or 26.Bg5 a move later were very strong.

However, all those that think the computer positionally outplays top GM players should look at this game carefully. Roman isn't a "top GM" today. And an oversight brings him down as was discussed previously...

No, this game is not appropriate for that kind of conclusions.
If you haven't noticed, it was a handicap game. Rybka had black and didn't had the f-Pawn from the start, which is a HUGE handicap.

So it's logical that the GM outplayed Rybka 3 for a big part of the game as without f-Pawn black's play is absolutely paralyzed!

Roman isn't a "top GM" today. And an oversight brings him down as was discussed previously...

Actually Rybka 3 already had an advantage. The mistake just killed white immediately.....

This is a handicap match, Bob. Without pawn f7 you are material down plus you are positionally worse. So white starts with an advantage of at least +1,25 at the beginning of the game and black needs white mistakes to draw or even win the game.

And that's why I hate this kind handicap match because the human supporters will jump over the software saying:
"See,the GM outplayed the chess engine positionaly,but a stupid tactical mistake cost him the game....""
In this particular case they forget that the machine is a pawn down and it plays black all the time....
As one of my friends here likes to say:
Come on,give me a break
