It contains everything, from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Online lightning games to world championship correspondence games.
Computer games, human games, etc. If two cows played a game of chess, it would be in there too.

Dann,

Is your site down currently? I cannot get to it via http or ftp and ping fails also.

Or is it just overwhelmed at the moment?

Thanks,

Roy

Well, you said it was "junk" so we know what we are getting ;-). But one thing to note in particular is that a good many of the games from engine matches are run with a limited depth book so you are not going to get a broad sampling of opening play from them.

True, but there are a couple million human/human OTB games and about 800,000 human(?) correspondence games.

I see nothing interesting in these junkbases.

My own one had more than 8 000 000 ones more than two years ago. I had a hell of a job pruning it so as to only keep a little less than 2 000 000 more interesting games.

There was a post on playchess a few months ago where you could read that more than 300 million games had been played on their server so far.

ICC has less players by now but a much longer history.

Yahoo chess has thousands of games played everyday.

Trying to search some chess truth in the monster collections of mostly valueless games is an impossible task IMHO.

Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I believe that Marcel Van Kervenik had 13 million rated games collected from FICS over ten years ago, so probably he has 50 million by now.

There are plenty of stinkers in junkbase, hence the name.

But it's worth what you pay for it, at least.
