SWCR-32: SF 1.9.1 JA after 652 games the new Number *1*

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hi there,

the still running SWCR-32 tournament is very interesting. With more and more games SF 1.9.1 JA w32 got a higher and higher rating.

Now, after 652 of 960 games, the SWCR-32 have at the moment a new Number 1.

A great day ... today is Monday, November 01st, 2010.
The Rybka ghost ended, finitely!

I don't like Rybka after all what comes in the latest year. Thinking on the update Rybka 3++ which never come, other things! It's time for a new number 1 and great is ... it's is a free available engine with free available sources.

For me a great day in computer chess engine develops.
Congratulations to the SF team, Tord, Marc and Jonna and all people which helps the SF programmers !!

The still running SWCR-32 tourney ended next week Monday. It will be interesting to see ... can SF 1.9.1 JA w32 hold this strong rating.

At the moment 2 ELO more as Rybka 4 w32!

Hi there,

its very clear after 652 games I think ...
Tournament started with games vs. Ktulu 9.03 and Deep Fritz 12. Deep Fritz 12 other GUI and Ktulu 9.03 crased some times. These engines plays at first before if I start a new SWCR-32 tournament vs. the new updates. The SF results vs. Deep Fritz 12 after 40 can be better but this bad results can be the reason that SF made with more games now more and more points. Also a bad start vs. Shredder 12 with 5.5 : 9.5, at the moment 14.5 : 11.5 ... reason 2!

So this rating after 652 games vs. 24 different participant w32 TOP-Engines is clear I think to 85% !!

Look here:

Rating develops for Stockfish 1.9.1 JA w32:
After 256 / 388 / 498 / 542 / 586 / 608 / 652 games, nice to see!

Code: Select all

Stockfish 1.9.1 JA w32:
08 Stockfish 1.9.1 JA 2870 39 37 256 75% 2690 33%
07 Stockfish 1.9.1 JA 2883 32 31 388 77% 2690 33%
07 Stockfish 1.9.1 JA 2885 28 27 498 77% 2691 32%
07 Stockfish 1.9.1 JA 2886 27 26 542 77% 2691 33%
07 Stockfish 1.9.1 JA 2887 26 25 586 77% 2691 33%
07 Stockfish 1.9.1 JA 2892 26 25 608 77% 2691 32%
06 Stockfish 1.9.1 JA 2894 25 24 652 78% 2691 32%

Code: Select all

Rybka 4 w32 at the moment:
07 Rybka 4 2892 19 19 1116 76% 2699 32%
In the still running tournament:
SF 1.9.1 w32 have 77,71%, Rybka 4 w32 = 76,54%
And here, also very clear ...

So I think after 652 games now it's clear and 32bit have a new number 1.

Prognosis = 2.897 ELO after 960 games (excel calculation).

Hi Wayne,

32bit and 64bit is a different for myself.
Users with 32bit OS machines have no interest on 64bit results because 32bit can be use only. Users with 64bit OS can be used 32bit & 64bit and in the most of cases have interest on both results.

So I have a SWCR-32 (32bit engines only) and a SWCR-64.

The next SWCR-64 tournament will be start around November 08th, 2010.

Updates so far:

"zu" in German language = "to" in English language
"Unterschied" in German language = "Different" in English language.
But ELO = ELO :-)

So it's clear that Rybka 4 will be the number 1 in SWCR-64 after SF 1.9.1 x64 testing.

But perhaps with 15-20 ELO only :-)
I think SF 1.9.1 w32 is a good optimated w32 version, same compare to SF 1.7.1 w32. Perhaps the work from Jim Ablett?!

Thanks for your nice comment.
Have a nice day ... TOO !!

Thank for the games Frank.
I like this SF 1.9.
It is indeed very strong.
It is about as strong as Ivanhoe To.5.1.
At present with 112 game played Ivanhoe
with 5/3 TC is 14 elo stronger. This could
change of course in the next 87 games.

Best,
Gerold.

Generally speaking yes....but still, there are a lot of chess engines that are still 32 bit,old and new....I for myself test only the x64 version of a particular chess engine if available....if not, then the x32 one....

Ho Jouni,

that's a typical comment from a "computer chess" freak!

SWCR have three list with ratings.
SWCR-32, SWCR-64, SWCR All (booth, 32bit, 64bit). For each lists I have a detail page. Most interest my visitors have on the 32bit list. The rate is 68%:32% for 32bit.

Interesting are now the reasons for it!

1. In my chessclub SG Trier (is playing in the first German league) the most club-members ... best player GM Georg Meyer is number 2 in Germany, have a 32bit OS computer. GM Meyer too! This group of people have no interest on x64.

Main comment is ...
What is 64bit, sorry?
Can I eat it?

I can nothing do with x64!!

2. 64bit, or more cores, ponder=on or databases like opening book, endgame tablebases are speed factors only. This have nothing to do with the "main playing strength" of an engine. A rating list should test the main playing strenght and not databases like books or ... how strong in engine x with 2 cores, 4 cores. Its very easy to test the SMP factor with three positions. So x thousends games are not necessary. Most of players in chess club can't understand such a rating list.

One of the reason for myself to test the basic strenght of engines because I public the list and I will give the right information!

IMPORTANT IS:
32bit, 1 Core with for club players normaly option: ponder = on !! Ponder = off have nothing to do with real chess, ponder = off games are a chess variant, compare to chess960 ... for the most chess players I speak about it.

It's right that correspondence chess players have interest on speed factors, computer chess players too. But this is a very small group only.

Typical comments in the time the SWCR-32 are public in SCHACHWELT (German chess magazine) ...

BRAVO:
I can do a little bit with such a list and the information I got. Because I know Fritz is on place 5, Rybka on 1, Stockfish I don't know ... hm I have to test Stockfish or Critter ... very interesting information for myself.

In times today most of the new computers comes with a x64 OS. Around since a half year in Germany. Most of the 500 EUR notebooks comes with Windows 7 64bit. It's a question of time and the most chess players have more interest on 64bit, its absolutly clear ... I think for each one.

But fact is:
At the moment clear more important for my visitors and within for myself are the SWCR-32. I have interest to give the right information others can do a bit. Or I must not play / public a rating list with number 1.000 for a small group of people.

And to get a new number 1 in the main rating list is for the most really a sensation!!

Have a nice evening.
And all this text in "Frankish".
Hope you can understand my interest on ratings.
To find out the "main playing strength of engines" !!

Best
Frank

PS:
If you have interest on 64bit and SWCR, the next big update tourney with SF 1.9.1 x64 started November 08th, 2010!
