It is the fact they are promoting a small private computer chess tournament, with no official recognition, on their front page as the main article, after only three rounds, which is the sort of reporting reserved for major international chess tournaments.... It is amazingly bad judgment, and beyond stupid.

Of course, I'm happy for Martin, but this changes nothing.

A contrario: It is utterly right judgement, because it has to do with Houdini 1.5 who has taken over the first place in computer chess world after years of Rybka domination. And all the silly used excuses of "oh no it is only stronger because off contempt factor, or "oh no it is simply the fast time control" has finally stopped for good. Because it is true Houdini is number one with a great margin.
And I think that most of us CC enthousiastics feel the same way.

You are completely confused on the purpose and target audience of ChessDom. The wider chess readership knows nothing about any contempt factor or any such nonsense, and couldn't care less. CC enthusiasts account for roughly 0.1% of their readership (if that), so favoring this extreme minority over their targeted partners is ... less than brilliant.

be a Human. If Houdini were a new chess star in the Human Pro scene,
then it would be understandable, if they would post a 3 rounds standing
with a 3/3 score, when he already has proven to be better than #1 player
in the last few months in minor events. Doing the same thing with
a chess program looks horrible for experts(obviously not for Ippo/Houdini
fanboys), because of the statistical irrelevance of 3 games and the general meaning of the event.

be a Human. If Houdini were a new chess star in the Human Pro scene,
then it would be understandable, if they would post a 3 rounds standing
with a 3/3 score, when he already has proven to be better than #1 player
in the last few months in minor events. Doing the same thing with
a chess program looks horrible for experts(obviously not for Ippo/Houdini

Actually it's 4 games now. But that's just half the punchline. The other half is simply Rybka scoring 2/4 against it's main opposition in the division. The two halves make a very happy whole .

I'm glad someone understands.

As to my opinion of Houdini 1.5, I have no doubts as to its superior strength, and use it regularly for game analysis, with a higher priority over Rybka 4. Still, this is completely beside the point.
