Is computer chess dieing?

It seams the only strong engines that get updated are clone engines.

Huh, what about the new Komodo? It's supposed to be very strong, maybe even the strongest.

looks like junior is barely stronger if any and second its already been highly discussed critter is very very similar to houdini.

sure it is.
Computer chess has changed in the 14 years I have been using programs.
My first was chessmaster and then Shredder 4 and then all others after that. no pirate and most not downloads so I could have the cd/dvd case for my collection.
I am mostly refering to the amount of top strong programmers involved.
Rybka cluster, Houdini, Critter are in a class by themselves, all others that show up on raceday are racing for second place.
