Queensacrifice against Houdini3, correct or not?

Post by Henryval »

This game shows the positional abilitys of a program. Komodo 3 attack won this Queensac against Houdini3. I can tell You...not much programs will do that. Discussion opened.

Houdini3 itself prefers Qb1 on my Computer.

Komodo got 3 pieces for the Queen. This is more an exchange than a sacrifice

Critter-1.6a (8 threads, 4GB hash, MultiPV=3) also prefers to give up the queen, but favors Black.

Sacrificing the queen for three minor pieces, and a strong pawn center, is not unreasonable at all. In my engine DiscoCheck, the queen value is almost equal to 3 minor pieces, so it will not hesitate to sac a Queen for 3 minors.

So I wouldn't call it a "sacrifice", but an exchange! (albeit an unusual one)
Theory and practice sometimes clash. And when that happens, theory loses. Every single time.

Not sure if this is a good sign, given its strength, but Jazz plays Qxe3 immediately and doesn't consider anything else.

Hi Joe, curious, how is "Komodo3 attack" different from the default Komodo3?

Thanks,

Not on my computer, here Houdini itself would exchange the queen in that situation. Takes a minute to find it on my Phenom II X6:
