Scid vs. PC 4.14

I am saying as a whole in my experience, I could on and on. I ran Windows 8 for 2 years before my file system got messed up (bad sectors) so I installed Linux Mint 17.1 and I got hosed in 2 mos and I had to reinstall it again just a couple days ago.

I had a WinXP/Ubuntu dual boot and Ubuntu screwed me there some years back too.

I can't even install a UCI in SCID without it locking up on me or screwing up on me.

I am not starting a Linux Windows war and I have always been a Windows user but Linux is limited in it's software.

it is faster & you have less worries about viruses/spyware but that's the only plus I see about it.

limited software, limited chess support, having to compile your own programs, installing programs and then where are they, o, yeah, it's command line based! I started off in MS-DOS but I don't want to go back to that.

I would tell someone in a heartbeat to go to MAC OS instead of the norm Windows.

I had about 200 specialized program running through Windows 8. I go to Linux and I am fortunate to get a browser. Once you start going for programs that YOU particularity need you are done in Linux.

Do the current moderators follow these threads?

Really? I mentioned UCI engines and SCID and about their minimal support?? Read my post again.

I trust you don't really think that Linux users rely on good fortune to install engines or get a browser.

I did offer a suggestion about Options, but I've no idea if it addressed and solved a particular problem of yours. You were too busy not starting a war.

I did offer a suggestion about Options, but I've no idea if it addressed and solved a particular problem of yours. You were too busy not starting a war.

There did not do much. I am going to windows soon. I have been just to lazy to install but dealing with this has given me a boot in the rear end.

There supported but when I try to load them the program crashes so it does not work for me. Only one that sticks is Stockfish 6, komodo works once and then you try it again and it does nothing, Critter 1.6a does not even load.

Well, I use Stockfish, Komodo and Critter in SCID (and several othere UCI engines) without problems whatsoever. Did you check the executable rights? Do you even use linux executables?

These are all Linux exe and I have given permission to be an executable file.

OK, try running a uci engine in a terminal window.

e.g. on my machine I do this in the terminal window:

cd ~/chess/engines/
./komodo
uci (here you should get all the engine and author id and uci options)
go infinite (engine should start analyzing and giving you some output)
stop (stops the engine)
quit

If this works your engine is running allright and should work with SCID too!

yeah, it works but not in SCID

I'll go to set up new engine, I do name (SF6) and then I open up EXE for command and then the program freezes on me.

I got Stockfish 6 working in Raptor GUI but SCID, it's unstable with any engine.

I am using Linux Mint 17.1
