Well, you don't have to wait very long - just today I'm working on this module. :D

This driver is in MESS as 'Acetronic Chess Traveller', but exactly the same device was produced by SciSys and Novag as 'Chess Champion - Pocket Chess', so I'll implement it as Novag machine.

I'm almost finished with it, made a nice artwork and again an extra chessboard, but I still have to fix a display problem while the engine is thinking (it's almost the same problem as for the MK I).

Since you have (or had) this computer - I've a question for you:
it seems that this machine displays the level number (in higher levels) while it is thinking, but is this number displayed continuously or does it blink at any rate (e.g. once every second)?

Regards,
Franz

Thanks Daniel!

Another friend has just tested it on his device, and he said that this level display does not blink,
so I let it display permanently (while the engine is thinking) in the driver.

So here's the next update nr. 3 for CB-Emu with a new device: Novag Chess Champion Pocket Chess
(was also available from SciSys, and under the name 'Chess Traveller' from Acetronics and others)

And here's a small update again for the last 3 (Novag) artworks -
now the buttons change when you click on them (looks much better!):

I'll take a look at my old friend :)

Regards,
Franz
Works fine, interesting play. It does not blunder clearly.

Yes it was a very pleasant machine :)
It was a program by David Lévy and co
Bests
Dany
I have a book "How computers play chess" by David Levy and Monty Newborn. Very interesting to read. In the appendix there is a list of results of major tournaments. :) Mephisto dominates from 1983 to 1989 in World Microcomputer Championships. Amsterdam, Dallas, Rome, Almeria. Are these the Mephistos that are available here?

Yes, all these machines are implemented in CB-Emu, but only in their officially released versions.
In these WM tournaments they used special WM-versions with overclocked CPUs and more RAM - these special devices are not emulated in MESS, and it would be quite difficult to add them to the emulator - I've tried it, but the drivers are programmed very bad and don't even allow a small increase of the CPU frequency.

Nice info, BTW do you have an idea of the estimated NPS of these computers, for example Novag Super Constellation?

I tried reading here but could not figure out its estimated nps.

No, sorry.
NPS infos are only rarely available for those old chess computers, because most of them didn't even have the feature to show this value.
