Which is in your opinion the best alternative instead of Stockfish 8 current edition?
ASMfish, Brainfish, Cfish or another "derivative" version?
Best wishes,
Norbert

Derivative? If I owned the copyright of SF I would put a stop to any pirating!Norbert Raimund Leisner wrote:Which is in your opinion the best alternative instead of Stockfish 8 current edition?

Well, you don't, and there was nothing to stop anyway, as the license of Stockfish explicitly allows making derivatives and even outright copies that change nothing but the name.

In my system it plays as fresh as a daisy! Just in time the author ported Stockfish 8 to assembler again before he suddenly passed from view.tttony wrote:asmfish is dead
My belated thanks for the exiting matches and to the winner of so many of my tournaments
Enjoy a short nighttime passage of a statistical discourse between Robert Houdart and Mohammed Li (asmFish), TCEC-Chat, on the 13th of July in 2016
- Robert Houdart (Houdini) (VIP)
first thing to learn as engine tester is the error margins - with 250 games the 95% error margin is about 30 Elo
- mohammed li (SF wins 51%)
yes, but I don't have time for 1000 games
- Robert Houdart (Houdini) (VIP)
Mohammed, if you don't have time for 1000 games, you shouldn't do engine testing
- Vincent Lejeune
Mo : ask somoeone to help you to test the engine
- mohammed li (SF wins 51%)
but I want a rought estimate
- Robert Houdart (Houdini) (VIP)
engine testing is just wasted time if you don't recognize the error margins in your tests
- Robert Houdart (Houdini) (VIP)
many times have I seen a +20 Elo gain after 750 games become a +5 Elo gain after 1500 games... it's just a lottery
- mohammed li (SF wins 51%)
thats a real bummer - why is chess engine dev so hard
- Robert Houdart (Houdini) (VIP)
for sure it's a very frustrating activity... variance is a bitch
Following a longer break……
- mohammed li (SF wins 51%)
if we all agree that few games are statisically meaningless, what are we doing here?
just hoping to see some quality chess?
The sound of silence... Suddenly everybody seemed to be busy otherwise
