Doubleheader coming up

Post by MikeB »

Aristides-v2 will be jointly released at the same time as SF-McB-v2.7 in the next few weeks. Based on Cfish, a very nicely done port of Stockfish in C by the syzygy tablebase author Ronald De Man, it runs about 10% faster than standard Stockfish , Aristides also has some added McB features like play by ELO, fast play , terminal keyboard shortcuts and search tweaks to solve some positions that Stockfish has a very hard time with - but not as many tweaks that McB has - so it will play very strong, stronger than McB I think - not enough games to say for sure - but here's an example of play in a 5 min 3 sec inc game:

I always enjoy the black side wins the most in comp vs comp.

Engines at this level get a lot of draws in 5 min 3 sec increment games - but here's a test run in progress with all 3 engines dev-SF, dev-SF-McB and Aristides-v2

not a lot games , but it is already clear these engines will be very competitive with each other and I would never be able to run enough games at this time control to say for sure which is engine is stronger - but one will be free to draw his own conclusions once both engines are released.

Hi Norbert

Is this the same engine/version indicated by MikeB?

Would you mind upload it in a different site... rapidu.net just doesn't work.

Thanks in advance

600 game test run , single core , 64M hash., 5 min + 3sec inc, using Kai's opening book.

I'm willing to call dev-SF-McB result an outlier above, but Cfish-Aristides result looks pretty convincing and 99%+ plus of the playing code is all Ronald. It just called something else so folks don't confuse it with the real Cfish. 10% faster than dev-SF on a Mac - great job by Ronald converting the code to C. Planning Labor Day Release and yes that means Thursday August 31st so if you're taking the Friday off before Labor Day, you get to play with it over the long 4 day weekend. Just want to take some time and if there's any code from SF-Zander that I can sneak in. Just 3 weeks away and as an FYI, the CF-Arisitide above had only Stockfish updates through about early May. More ELO is on the way. Ronald has been converting the SF code to C at a torrid pace - he is a pretty amazing programmer.

Michael, note the +20 Elo jump in SF dev performance at https://nextchessmove.com/dev-builds today (August 26, 2017). You may want to incorporate the corresponding three changes into Aristides / SF-MB to prevent them from falling behind.
