Can anyone tell me how client.exe and lczero.exe are different? What are their purposes?

How can i help the project? By running client.exe or lczero.exe?

Can anyone explain me how do people that downloading it and running it are helping the project?
a) Do they just produce self-played games? That then later the training is applied from these games. If yes, where the training occurs?
b) By running it along with the self-played game, training occurs also in people's computers.

Client.exe will run lczero to produce training games which are uploaded to a central server, which does a training run to create a new network approximately every 4 hours. The training run is GPU intensive and cannot be multiplexed.

Things have got a bit out of kilter in the last 24 hours due to an introduced bug in the training code. This has now hopefully been resolved and things should progress as before.

So to answer my question, we can help the project by just producing (self-played) games?

OK i see thanks, so running lczero.exe is just for fun and does not help the project at all?

Running lczero.exe in your local GUI, i.e. Arena is indeed just for fun.

The client will run lczero.exe and produce games which are uploaded and used for generating an improved network.

The graph starts perhaps to show a point of diminishing returns?
Is this somewhat worrisome for the project?

The graph is misleading because of a bug that has now been solved (though, the graph still shows old data). There is around 300 "self-play elo" difference between network id 55 and the previous one, which the graphic does not show. The progress hasn't stalled at all.

My nice games as white in Slow mode against LCZero ID55. It seems that LCZero plays major openings very often in the past few days. Maybe better opening understanding than top engines without a book IMO. Of course its weak tactics is another story.

When I matched LCZero (ID 44) vs TSCP with an 8 move book to a 10 game match, it finished 5-5 at 40/40 TC.

When I did the same, but without book, TSCP won 9-1.

Maybe the latest networks have improved their opening knowledge.
