TCEC superfinal underway

Post by Dann Corbit »

Current game started:
1. f4 e5 2. fxe5 *

I have this analysis for the position:
[d]rnbqkbnr/pppp1ppp/8/4P3/8/8/PPPPP1PP/RNBQKBNR b KQkq - acd 42; acs 25377; bm d6; c3 "d6"; cce -29; ce -46; id "Silver-Gambit.01"; pm d6 {2535} Nc6 {383} d5 {9} f6 {4} Bc5 {2} Qh4+ {2} Bd6 {1} g5 {1}; pv d6 exd6 Bxd6 Nf3 Bg4 e3 Ne7 Be2 O-O O-O c5 Nc3 Nbc6 g3 Qb6 Ng5 Bxe2 Qxe2 h6 Nge4 Bc7;
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

great opening to start, though engines defused it in no-time, without any of the audience understanding what the heck was happening... lol

SF has only lost 1 game this season and it was bookless game! Regression: last season was zero loss :D .

SF loss was self-inflicted. Serves it right for playing the FRENCH ha!

Now 100 games and 1 loss. This is becoming boring! We need stronger opponents for the fish.

H is optimistic by using default contempt of +2.

Code: Select all

The objectively highest level of play is achieved without contempt, i.e. Contempt value 0.

A contempt value of 2 will typically reduce the draw rate in a match by about 4%.
It's wrong to blame contempt solely, but 4 games can potentially be lost in a 100 game match by using default contempt. Those 4 games could instead have been draw.

The solution is simply to give the opponents more time so you have stronger opponents for the fish.

Alternatively if it is too long give the champion less time to make the next competition more interesting.

I wouldn't want to delay our witnessing of something closer to perfect chess just because it is a one man show.

I like watching SF play. But I hate to see another top engine get smashed, as is currrently happening.

TCEC should have a "Mercy" rule that stops the super-final at the midpoint if one engine has a very large lead of about 8+ points. Since no adjustments or updates are allowed during the match, the situation will continue approximately as is.

What for? Stockfish is really stronger much. TOP-2 really doesn't reach the level of TOP-1 at the moment. And this is his problem. In my opinion, Stockfish willn't longer have competitors.
