CCCC is running

• Time controls: Rapid (15m + 5s)
• Ponder: On
• 46 threads per engine

Does this make TCEC now obsolete!? I think display of small boards can be improved. Are they actual thinking/pondering lines?

Nice tourney, but it doesn't make TCEC obsolete by any means.
It's just an additional event on big hardware. :P

And the draw rules are a waste of energy resources and make part of the game very boring and lengthy!
I prefer the Tcec website

Very nice indeed ! You can see the engine thinking in real time and in TCEC you can't. I think that is a big positive. The time control is a little short for my tastes, I'd prefer 30 minutes plus an increment. But a very welcome addition to the online tournament world.

The draw rules are good to discover bugs in chess engines.
In other tournament engines that have bugs may avoid losing points because of the bugs.

one possible bug for example that I know from history of chess engines is related to the 50 move rule.
A program that does not check that a position is not a checkmate before checking for the 50 move rule may lose a drawn endgame by allowing mate in 1 when claiming draws by the 50 move rule after the mate is not possible.

not obsolete: TCEC runs almost 24/7 :D

CCCC (4C) does have live chat as well, which is like 95% of the fun 8-)

and yes, 4C uses pondering ON and live pv. New TCEC beta site has live pv from stockfish (running on remote server) and is working on live pv from engines as well.

hopefully TCEC beta can also change to a nice graphical layout as 4C.. right now it's "meh"

I had some issues with the setup, which I've detailed here before, but I still think it's interesting and I'm glad they're doing it.

Almost sad to write this, but I don't like CCCC or TCEC.

Back in the day, when "T" stood for Thoresen, TCEC was a real labor of love, with the best quality chess.

Now everyone is trying to monetize, and so we have 24/7 tournaments where one season simply blurs into another. And too many participants. And too short time controls.

Oh well, things change.
