What are the chances of GM Caruana ?

Post by Chessqueen »

Everybody knows that GM Carlsen is the best Rapid and Blitz player in the world, if NOT the second best. If GM Caruana is not able to get ahead in the classical you might as well say that Caruana chances are very limited. For the Moment lets enjoy one of the best game of the match so far:

As we know, the match ended with 12 draws. Onto the blitz round.

Isn't it now more like the toss of a coin? Like a kind of luck who makes the first blunder?
The ACTUAL result was a draw, but since there can only be one champion so they find a means of inducing blunders to let that decide? First rapid then blitz and if they are still all draws, then something even more remote from actual chess itself?

A tie goes to the champion. In boxing also. The challenger has to defeat the champion, not tie him. They are extremely even. The best 2 in the world in my opinion.

I am not sure how fair Kasparov's assessment is.

In light of this shocking draw offer from Magnus in a superior position with more time, I reconsider my evaluation of him being the favorite in rapids. Tiebreaks require tremendous nerves and he seems to be losing his.

Official (free) webpage was really rock bottom. Small board, blurry, unstable. And analysing engine looks like from 1990  .

GM Carlsen World Champion in Rapid, NOT in Classical Chess, they should have extended to 4 more classical games

I prefer this since, there is a GM explaining all the strategies and tactics involved

Back in 1972 a news reporter asked Bobby Fischer why he was demanding so much money to play versus Spassky and he answered with another question why does Björn get so much money? Even though he was number one in tennis for a long time, Borg's total career prize money was "only" around 3,6 million dollars! Borg debuted when he was only fifteen, in a match where he represented Sweden in a Davis Cup match, and won, back in 1972. Just a couple of months later, he won at the Wimbledon Junior Championship. In 1979, Björn was the first man who earned more than a million dollars in prize money in one season! He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987. Bobby was very smart when it came to getting what he was worth, not like nowadays that Chess Champion take whatever they offer them. If You Compare Serena Williams Net worth to GM Carlsen there is a difference of 172 million dollars.

Back in the 90;s Fischer demanded $5 million dollars to play versus Spassky and got it nowadays 26 years later the prize is merely $1.3 million dollars.
Now if you compare that to Serena Williams
How Much Is the U.S. Open Prize Money in 2018?
In total, the U.S. Open has said it plans to award $53 million in winnings to competitors this year.

In the singles' competition for both men and women, the winner will receive $3.8 million, while the runner-up that gets defeated will still go home with $1,850,000
