No need for more than Tactical 1, there are'nt any real good alternatives to Nc8 and Ng5 anyhow. No Null Moves unchecked, Analysis Contempt neither, but 24 threads of 12x3GHz, 32G hash, slowest of three trials:

Contempt 300 (not possible as UCI- option of 10.1, so I can't check) could help to solve even without MV, did you try that?
If it works, Mareks variation of the position could be solvable for dev-McCain too maybe.
Peter.

Wow ... what a nice position! If a Super GM is going to beat a top chess engine it will be a position like this. All the human has to see is that there is no risk in avoiding the obvious N check and going for a perpetual and playing Nc8!!!. After that it is fairly obvious that the king can be forced to block the queen escape routes and b6 just entombs the black queen. Once that is done black is totally helpless and has no play. A very nice position that unlike many setup puzzles is something that I can see happening in an actual game.

But does it solve Marek's variation of the position too?

Here*s Rober Flesher's Aggressor Dissident -setting of Zappa (solving the study- position itself in about 3 minutes, btw. has anybody found out the author?):

Thank you, Árpád!
I knew it would have an other one starting position, or I would have found it already.

In a way I really dislike this kind of dismembering someone's work without giving at least credit to the original sources, just to have one more "test position" for engines to "publicise".

Still and even more we have Sting only to solve it quickly with correct continuation in output- line and winning eval, except some wild settings of engines or much hardware- time to be used.

Only disadvantage as for engine- testing of the original starting position is, you cannot take it as to be solved by first move "found" or not found only, because the correct reasons of solving has to be checked in output- line longer than one ply.

That's why I don't like single best move test- suites for judging "overall playing strength" by itself so much neither. Measured in Elo or whatever, "overall playing strength" is a fake by itself always anyhow.

Playing strength of humans and of engines is always position- dependent, and as such it can be tested always only.

That was a lucky run probably, first one before took some longer to get rid of 0.00 with b5 or Ng5.
Won't give it a third try.
Should have given stop-start here also latest after 30', to get an output- line sooner maybe.

But does it solve Marek's variation of the position too?
Hi Peter,

Yes, it seems to, although so far we don't see the second move for White.
