Building a 500$ PC only for Chess

Post by Shahrad »

Hi,
I want to build a pc, more precisely I want to let someone build a pc for me only for engine analysis which shouldn't cost more than 500$. I hope you guys can give me some recommendations regarding CPU, Motherboard, power and cooling.

I just search in the shop I buy my PCs.
500$ is a bit short.
Here's the cost for only CPU, motherboard, memory and SSD. Already 565 euros :

Code: Select all

Intel s1151 9xxx - 6 Core i5-9400F - 9Mb Cache - 2.9Ghz/4.1Ghz - No GPU Inside - Intel ( 169 € )
Asus s1151 - 8/9xxx - B360 Rog Strix B360-G Gaming mATX - Asus ( 133 € )
Corsair DDR4 - 3000 MHz - 16Gb / Vengeance LPX (1x16Gb) - Corsair ( 129 € )
Samsung M.2 - 500Gb 970 EVO Plus NVMe - 3500/3300Mo/s - Samsung ( 134 € )

A starting point:

Newer AMD 3000 cpus might be a better bet.

Depending on where you are. In US it is 15-20% cheaper. In the link below for $210 you have a cooled 6 core Ryzen 5 and 16 GB DDR4 fast RAM:

Cheap motherboard + HDD (or 256GB SSD) + case + small things --- another $200. Building it, say $50. All in all, less than $500. In Europe it is €500.
No GPU, for that you will have to spend another $250 on GTX 1660, if you want something sensible for Leela and similar.
