Re: World Fischer Random Championship
I find myself wondering what Bobby Fischer would think of the tournament bearing his name. I think he would have a huge amount of problems with it. He would want to be paid.

Re: World Fischer Random Championship
Perhaps that's why it was usually called chess 960 during his lifetime and shortly after, as well as Fischer's political views and racial/religious bigotry. Now that no one is worried about a lawsuit, they seem to be returning to the Fischer Random name. I think the Fischer Random name is more appealing to new players than chess 960.

Any line is fine. For example can you find any rare alternatives for black in any of these lines at any point?
1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. 0-0 Be7 6. Re1 b5 7. Bb3 d6 8. c3 0-0 9. h3 Na5
1.e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. e5 Nfd7 5. f4 c5 6. Nf3 Nc6 7. Be3 Be7 8. Qd2 0-0
1.d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 d5 4. g3 Be7 5. Bg2 0-0 6. 0-0 dxc4 7. Ne5 Nc6

I do NOT see anything incredible about that, it could be that Carlsen knows the openings and most variations up to the middle games deep deep enough better than any other top player, but when you disarm him of his GREAT opening knowledge he got what he got 13.5 to 2.5.
PS: GM Wesley So is so polite that on his interview he made Carlsen feel better about himself by saying if this was Normal standard chess Carlsen would had destroy me, but the fact is that in this category of Fischer Random Chess GM So is a better player plus the fact that GM Wesley play thousands of games on Chess.com and that is where he got such intensive FRC Opening awareness and know how to properly open a FRC Game. In reality GM Wesley did not had to make Carlsen feel better he should had say in this type of Chess variant I am the best player, but Carlsen has the potential to beat me with more practices. Simply check GM Wesley Chess.com account and see for yourself how many FRC games he played on the past

I don't think lawsuits were ever an issue. e.g. He complained about the book and film "Searching for Bobby Fischer", but there were not lawsuits.lkaufman wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 1:17 amPerhaps that's why it was usually called chess 960 during his lifetime and shortly after, as well as Fischer's political views and racial/religious bigotry. I think it was just the organizers' beliefs about Fischer. Some, especially in the US, thought his political views made it harmful having his name attached to the game. Others, especially in Scandinavian countries, wanted to honor him by having his name attached to the game.

Good perceptive points. I agree that the name appeals more. It does for me.lkaufman wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 1:17 amPerhaps that's why it was usually called chess 960 during his lifetime and shortly after, as well as Fischer's political views and racial/religious bigotry. I remember he wanted to be paid by Russia for book royalties from his book My 60 Memorable Games before he would consider a match with Garry Kasparov. 1992 was an exciting time in chess for me. I was really interested in Fischer. That was before all of his ranting and raving later on.jp wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 3:30 pmI don't think lawsuits were ever an issue. He was also upset at the Englishmen in the chess publishing industry who were editing an edition of that book for stuffing it up and making him look like a fool (because it wasn't clear the stuff-ups were their "editing", not his mistakes). I don't think John Nunn has ever apologized for that.

Sure, the trick is that you don't need to find a good rare alternative, you can find a good common alternative, and then deviate with a good rare one later on. Here's the lines (exclamation marks denote the moves to play to get into the rare positions, not that these moves are best.)EroSennin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 3:33 amAny line is fine.
