Kramnik Idea to abolish draws should be used in Championship...

Post by Chessqueen »

I believe that in World Chess Championship like the last between Caruana Vs Carlsen if after 12 games the score is still draw the title should NOT be decided in Blitz but instead using the same time control as the previous 12 games except that Castling should be abolished

I've got a different idea. Since players seem to accept and embrace armageddon in its current form, and even base their match strategies on its existence, then armageddon should be made maximally unpleaseant. Rapid and blitz is oh, huh? Then decide playoffs with games using doubled, then quadrupled time.

Castling itself is very fake concept.. no meaning at all... I dont know why we embrace few pieces played in board games and hail them as great players. Atleast some logic should be there

I wish they would make the championship longer than 12 games. How about 16? It use to be be 24.

Agreed. They are at least moving back in that direction as the next championship will be contested over 14 games: https://en.chessbase.com/post/fide-upda ... ampionship

Abolishing castling is not the correct adjustment. I think only a little portion of chess playerbase will accept and adapt to that.

" It looks like a strange step backwards. Why not instead, for instance, allow flexible castling? "

In this situation, White can move his King to any square on the back rank, and place the rook on the other side of it, adjacent to it. For example...

Or perhaps...

I wouldn't be surprised if the last championship influenced their decision to make the next one 14 games.
