Okay, thanks a lot. All that should help to make it work.
I will try again this evening.

Meanwhile I played successfully under Windows/winboard.
I also made some progress under Linux. It was the not working timeseal that prevented to connect. With the self-compiled openseal mentioned by Ronald it worked. But within a test game against rpiArminius the xboard crashed flooding the terminal with

Code: Select all

xboard: Fehler beim Schreiben zum ICS: Datenübergabe unterbrochen (broken pipe)
Connection to internet seemed okay so there may be some other problem.

I will continue the Windows/winboard way for now...

Sounds like timeseal crashed. XBoard connects to the icshelper through a pipe. Timeseal is basically a tellnet terminal that piggybacks time stamps on the transmitted data.

Is the server changed ? I am connected to by this command

Code: Select all

xboard -zp -ics -icshost winboard.nl -fcp "/home/daniel/Scorpio/bin/scorpio.sh" -fd "/home/daniel/Scorpio/bin" -autoKibitz
Ok I found the new link, but my account is not registered, so I can't shout or whisper.
Could someone fix that ?

For Daniel, I added an account for Scorpio and told you the initial password in the chatbox, I hope you noticed it.

There were a lot of participants this time, and the tourney gets more and more difficult each month. I even saw a few engines surpassing 100 mnps. Two engines had problems and were forfeited by Liesebeth (Eendje) our tournament manager.

LczTinker (LC0 v0.26 on a RTX 2080Ti) took first place. rofChade (I suspect running on 32 cores) is a good runner up.

We're thinking about running the next tourney for 11 rounds, maybe this is objectionable for some people?

Thanks, I got my password from there just now -- thankfully I did not close the window.

Computers are getting faster each time, 11 rounds 4-1 sounds like a good possibility, it won't diminish the level of play.

I will talk about it with Liesebeth, she is boss of course, I'm only supporting the tournament with hardware and by keeping the software alive. ;)

Are there any completely idiot proof instructions for hooking a UCI program into the system?

There are many roads that lead to Rome, if you are on Windows the easiest is using Winboard.

Assuming Winboard 4.8b is installed in C:\Winboard-4.8.0, I usually start Winboard this way:

C:\WinBoard-4.8.0\WinBoard\winboard.exe /ics /icshost nightmare-chess.nl /icshelper timeseal /zp /fcp "polyglot.exe" /fd "C:\Winboard-4.8.0\Winboard\" /autoKibitz /keepAlive 30

You have to add a polyglot.ini, and if you want to avoid entering the account-name and password each time you logon you can add an ics.ini, I assume you are familiar with this.
