Chessmaster support by Ubisoft Germany

Post by Norbert Raimund Leisner »

Hello,

some days ago I wrote an email to the Ubisoft support team in Germany:
it concerned the (simply) question:

Support other versions of CM besides Grandmaster Edition (XI) the feature "SMP"?

Their reply/advice was concise: It seems to be not a technical problem for us - please contact therefore chess communities etc.
If we will not hear from you anything else during the next 48 hours - it is assumed that your problem is solved by now.

O.K. CM 11 is out of stock there (release was in the year 2007), but that
kind of customer service for a commercial product is out of the question.

Best wishes,
Norbert

Hi Norbert !

The response to your question is NOT. Only The King 3.50 chess engine supports multiprocessing (on maximum 3 threads - a bit of unusual).

Be sympathetic , please !

ChessmasterGrandmaster Edition (XI) was developed by Ubisoft Entertainment S.A. with headquarters in Rennes/ France.

The others Chessmasters were developed by Ubisoft's North America /San Francisco Bay Area.

Mr. John Merlino knows a lot of more !

Sometimes a look into the rating-lists helps:
CEGT: 491 The King 3.50 x64 2CPU 2582 17 17 1036
or in CCRL 40/4
Chessmaster 11 4CPU 2859 +22 −22 59.2% −64.0 32.4% 698

We did not test 4CPU as I did not have a pc with 8 CPUs (CM always uses 1CPU even when idle)

best wishes

CM XI reserviert, aber gebraucht die extra threads nicht.

Es ist deshalb gut moeglich mit 4 threads zu spielen. Der gegner hatte keine Probleme und CM gebraucht die extra nicht wirklich.

Yes I agree, version before CM XI (The King 3.50) does not support SMP.

Nowadays under the Windows 10 I can't make it to use 4 threads even when applying the above mentioned configuration ....

Any help will be appreciated ....

Unfortunately, the last version I worked on was CM9000, so I have no idea of the workings of the two versions released after that (CM10 and CM Grandmaster). I didn't even know that later versions of The King were SMP.

But it also doesn't surprise me that Ubisoft support is of no help. The last version was released 13 years ago, and they have repeatedly said that they have no interest in reviving the franchise. When I was working on CM9000, I also did support, because the "official" support people knew nothing about chess, or even how to properly use the program.

Sorry I can't be of any more help. :(
