Are there chess programs to evaluate chess rating

Post by Uri Blass »

of players based on games.

If yes then
Is there some comparison to find which program is best for this target.

I think that it may be interesting to get an estimate for the rating of some players that played 100 or 200 years ago by some chess program based on the quality of their games.

For example I think that it may be interesting to have some estimate for the rating of
Louis Charles Mahe De Labourdonnais or Alexander McDonnell who played in 1834 based on the quality of their games.

I don't think that exists.

The closest thing I've seen are applications that try to calculate the Elo of a game (only one game and can be pgn format). These programs calculate the error in each move made by the user and an engine that normally has used some version of stockfish. These programs usually give the option to remove the moves from the opening and usually stop analyzing when there is already a significant difference in material, for example +5.´

In the forum we talked about one of these PC applications although I don't have the link (search ChessGameReport).

In Android, I know this app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... eyourgames

I don't know if the app is in English (I have it in Spanish). The interesting thing that I have seen when I have analyzed some of my games, is that my force of game is very variable, there are games in which I have committed many errors even of material and I finish with a low Elo of 1300 and in some of my games that there are not errors of material I have arrived almost at the 2500. A good option of the program would be to be able to analyze several games at once and make the average.

I think that there are positions when it is easier not to make mistakes that lose material and players with style that go more to these type of positions should not get a higher estimate.

Several years ago used ChessGameReport.exe and I was happy with it.

http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?t=51865
http://rybkaforum.net/cgi-bin/rybkaforu ... #pid236452

It produces a report like this :

Re: Are there chess programs to evaluate chess rating

Post by JohnW »

Sorry if I am misunderstanding but could you use Ordo?

https://sites.google.com/site/gaviotachessengine/ordo

"Ordo is a program to calculate ratings of individual chess engines (or players) "
