Game 1 - masterful game from Stockfish to take an early lead

Post by Graham Banks » Thu Nov 23, 2017 8:06 pm

GAME 1

Stockfish created a weakness in Houdini's queenside pawn structure and was able to gradually take advantage with a masterful display. An interesting feature of the game was when both queens were pinned and subject to discovered attacks for several moves. Stockfish takes the early lead in the match.

Game 2 - Stockfish wriggles free from passive position

Post by Graham Banks » Thu Nov 23, 2017 8:18 pm

GAME 2

Stockfish wriggles free from a passive position with pro-active play. Once the queens come off, there is an interesting phase where both sides create passed pawns. However, neither side sees any advantage and after further exchanges, the game is drawn. Stockfish leads by 1.5-0.5.

Game 3 - Houdini survives attack and turns the tables

Post by Graham Banks » Thu Nov 23, 2017 8:32 pm

GAME 3

Stockfish launches a bold attack on kingside, thrusting forward the pawns in front of its own king. Houdini counters on the queenside and in the centre, and when the Stockish attack fizzles out, comes away with the advantage.Houdini infiltrates along the d-file and takes the point. The match is now level at 1.5-1.5.

Game 4 - Houdini aggression repelled by Stockfish.

Post by Graham Banks » Fri Nov 24, 2017 3:55 am

GAME 4

Houdini played aggressively in the centre and on the kingside, even giving up a pawn for activity. However, Stockfish was never in any real danger. Once the queens came off, both sides were able to create passed pawns on opposite sides of the board and these negated each other. A draw resulted, leaving the match score at 2.0-2.0 (one win each).

Game 5 - an exciting skirmish, despite being drawn.

Post by Graham Banks » Fri Nov 24, 2017 4:07 am

GAME 5

Even though both sides felt that white had a tiny edge out of the opening, the Stockfish position looked the uglier until it uncorked 28. Rxf7. This led to a tactical skirmish and a perpetual check. The match score stands at 2.5-2.5 (one win each).
