Re: Can your engine find this move from the 6th Freestyle fi
That you found this combination in a blitz freestyle game is very impressive. Congratulations on a beautiful combination and an excellent game. I tried several programs on my quad core Opteron system running Vista x64, typically for about 20 minutes each. None of them found you excellent move Bc7!! May I ask what program you were using at the time to assist with your analysis? The whole line you give is 30 plies long so it is perhaps not so surprising that programs don't find it. How deep did you have to get beyond Bc7 before the program(s) knew you were on the right track?

[quote="Alkelele"][quote="Chris Taylor"]I am going to put ZapChess Zanzibar 64 bit on this. My next post will be that then! If I do get chance I will bang Rybka on as well.

Re: Can your engine find this move from the 6th Freestyle fi
Thanks! It was not quite a blitz game, the time control was 60 minutes + 15 seconds pr. move. I spent 3 minutes on 24.Bc7, and when I played it, I knew it was winning, having analysed sufficiently all relevant lines. For analysis, I used 2 Rybka 2.3.2b's, one running on a quad Intel, one running on a dual Opteron.smirobth wrote:That you found this combination in a blitz freestyle game is very impressive. In general, engines need to realize the strength of 30.Qxf5 before they can see that 24.Bc7 is strong. My interest here is to see how difficult it is for engines to realize this from the root position -- without the help of human intervention

Re: Can your engine find this move from the 6th Freestyle fi
Thanks, Chris. Next week, I can probably arrange for a quad Intel to take a 24 hour look on the position with either Rybka or Zappa Zanzibar or Hiarcs 11.1. It will be interesting to see if they can find it within that time-frame, or not.
