Re: [CCB] Division 4, Edition 8
Sorry, Tony. I think I wanted to add more engines as possible. Such as Terra, Gothmog, Kiwi etc because of obvious reasons:Tony Thomas wrote:Doesnt having two engines from the same author defeat the purpose for having divisions? I mean, I am pretty sure Tord can release 100 engines of various strength just by fiddling with the parameters..You have Kiwi and Gothmog competing, I shall stay out of this division as it is too hard for me to predict.
* improves competition and maximizes chances of difficulty in prediction.
* Want to have a database of all free engines rated above 1900.
*I don't include any duplicate copies of engines that are just paramater changes. such as Chessmaster and its personalities.
*I don't want to ignore the hard work of engine authors in writing a chess engine.
*Current engines have been tested a lot and I think many people participating in know about the strength already and repetitiveness with current engines that have no updates, edition after edition, is boring and dull.
* There are very few engines in waiting list. So, wanted to add more engines to put the 13th ranked ones to the waiting list to make way for more engines.
If the reasons are not good enough, I don't know what to say
Try your best to come up with 3 engines that you think would probably win, Tony. You can't complain about the syllabus given in course
I don't think Gothmog and Glaurung are similar engines, and Kiwi and Hamsters are different too and they don't share common code.

Only the engines that finished 12th or 13th previous edition and if there's no update to that, most likely wouldn't be able to get a chance to play in the current edition.Tony Thomas wrote:On another side note having too many engines from the same author prevents other programs from getting a chance...I guess Swami wouldnt have that problem since none of the engines in his divisions are guaranteed to play the next edition.Ovyron wrote:I agree. If 2 engines don't share code, both of them are allowed and can replace the 12th-13th-ranked-previous-edition-long-time-no-update-tested-too-much-already type engines
if these engines came in 10th-13th in current edition, they maybe replaced with new one or the one that was replaced in previous edition. Kind of substitute/transfer list players.
