Well this tournament is fascinating (for me anyway....)

1) Hiarcs is no Rybka-killer or tournament monster with own books and learning here, even given that we know it is really good at blitz. It seems to have settled into 4th place and only if learning really has an impact from now on will it improve. Maybe it will, I hope so
HOWEVER it is worth noting that Hiarcs score against Rybka is 8.5 - 9.5

2) With Zappa fighting for 2nd place, the Perfect13 book must be working really well with it, since we know blitz isn't one of Zappa 's strengths
It is worth noting that Zappa score against Rybka is also 8.5 - 9.5

3) I really wanted Shredder to do better, but at least it is fighting with Naum

Current position is:

Code: Select all

157.0/211 Rybka 2.3.2a x64
131.0/211 Zappa Mexico II x64
130.0/212 Fritz 11
122.0/212 Hiarcs 12
118.5/212 Shredder 11
118.0/211 Naum 3 x64
108.0/211 Toga II 1.4 beta5c
 98.5/211 Junior 10
 87.0/212 Spike 1.2 Turin
 80.0/212 Glaurung 2.0.1 x64
 79.5/211 Deep Sjeng 2.7
 75.5/211 Chess Tiger 2007.1
 69.0/211 Ktulu 8

It's closer to what would happen under tournament conditions :)

I am happy to see that Toga at least isn't harmed by the Balanced-12.ctg, as it seems. Compared to CCRL 40/4 rankings, I think Toga's rank so far is not unexpected... Although, the opponents with big books will probably have a little time advantage sometimes, if frequent variations are chosen and they have (more) book moves, especially after the 12th move.

Also, they probably could exploit some "holes" if they knew that it is a somewhat incomplete test book, only. But that would require artificial intelligence

 too bad, if Hiarcs can't make the most of the hardware and O/S, that's it's fault
