Speed difference
If one would upgrade from c2d 3200 to a q6600 at 3200, if all else stays the same how much of an elo increase would one get on playchess or in general? Thanks...

For Engines with MP support I think you could see great improvment. Zappa Rybka Crafty and such scales great for example.gigabyte137 wrote:If one would upgrade from c2d 3200 to a q6600 at 3200, if all else stays the same how much of an elo increase would one get on playchess or in general? For playchess however you better rely on a good book I guess, since almost everyone has a very fast machine.

Re: Speed difference
I'm not sure about Elo increase but an overclocked Quad Core QX6600 racked up some impressive scores in this benchmark. (http://www.jens.tauchclub-krems.at/dive ... marks.html)
What is your current rating with your Core 2 Duo? You could ask or check the likes of flyingfatman who have Quad Cores but they may have different opening books to the one you have.

Currently 2780 but I think I was hoping for a bigger jump upgrading to quad from my dual. Now I have to think more about it...
