No there is not yet anywhere a link to the beta 1. I don't think it is really in a presentable state. I am not yet doing any testing with games, there are a couple of positions that Toga is having much difficulty solving, and just I would like to know a bit more about why that could be... A lot of the program subroutines I just don't understand very well yet.
Maybe after Rybka 3 is ready I will have something better but then again maybe Rybka 3 will be the end of computerchess as we know it
But George thanks very much for the interest! There is a new version of Toga made by Jerry Donald, it is not yet available but maybe he is interested in getting some tests done with this new version. Dennis Mendoza has made some compiles for him.
My regards,
Eelco

Even the best chess program has some weaknesses as demonstrated by Roman Dzindzichashvili so if chess programs won't be improved anymore after Rybka 3.0 then these weaknesses won't be corrected.

Re: Toga's time management
Rybka 3 is only expected to be 100 ELO (max) stronger than Rybka 2.3.2a in a direct match, but lower against a wide range of opponents, I don't think that would be the end of computer chess (specially if Rybka 4 will be 100 ELO stronger than 3.)Eelco de Groot wrote:Maybe after Rybka 3 is ready I will have something better but then again maybe Rybka 3 will be the end of computerchess as we know it![]()
No other programs will be necessary anymore. Who knows, we will hear in about a month I think how far we are behind.
Also, there are persons that will not spend money in this hobby, and for them freeware engines are important.

Once it makes it to the endgame tablebases, GUI plays it for them.Uri wrote:Why do you mean with the assitance of their GUI? In a 1 minute game it takes my Toga II 3.1.2SE 4 and sometimes even 6 seconds to make a move. Is it supposed to be like this?

Re: Toga's time management
Hello Zlatnik, yes I think this is certainly possible, the maximum time allotted to resolve a difficult move (Fail lows etc.) is rather big. If Toga sees a winning move it can pay off. It may even take longer I think but after such a move Toga should start moving faster. Game in one minute is not really serious chess of course. On Playchess Tony said you should Fischer timecontrols for non-Chessbase engines. Toga should not lose on time that is the important thing!Uri wrote:In a 1 minute game it takes my Toga II 3.1.2SE 4 and sometimes even 6 seconds to make a move. Is it supposed to be like this?
