Ted ... which model did you buy and how much did you pay for it. Also how do you have it hooked up? Are you using a 64bit OS? My plan is to use it with Rybka which gains a lot from 64bit ... but I would also like to use it with my Pocket PC which is much weaker and thus allows me to have a game or two without getting crushed quickly.

I bought the Rosewood DGT Board, the set I purchased came with the Ebonized Professional Chess pieces. I believe that I paid about $600 (US Dollars). I later puschased a second set of the Rosewood Chess pieces as well. The Chess Set works with the DGT XL Chess Clock which I had already purchased a while back.
Below is my home setup, It came with a fairly long USB cable so you do not have to have it setup near your computer if you don't want to. When my set is not on my desk near the computer I use a set of wireless Bluetooth Headsets (Motorola HT820) to hear the computers moves.

My current OS is 64bit Windows Vista running on a Core2Duo. I have seen that the Pocket PC will work with the Serial Port version of this Chessboard, but I do not know about the USB version. Maybe someone else here can answer that question.
By the way, I understand that they now have or will soon be releasing a Bluetooth version of the DGT Chessboard. If you go with the Bluetooth version, I have no clue as to how you would use it with your Pocket PC.
The place I purchased it was on a website called thechesshouse. However they do not seem to have any in stock at this time. I checked this website (Your Move / ChessUSA), and they don't seem to have any in stock either. However you can still get it from "The House of Staunton", I am sure there may be places closer to you that sell the set as well.
PS: I have used the DGT Chessboard with Shredder, Chess Assistant, Chessbase 9, Fritz 11, and Chessmaster. I am not sure if it will work with Aquarium. I know that it does NOT work with Aquarium at this time. So don't expect to use it with the 1st release of this new GUI. I was told maybe in a later release DGT support might be added.

The CSS shop in Germany offers exactly that, since a couple of years. DGT board + Ipaq + Pocket Grandmaster program. But the set isn't cheap.M ANSARI wrote: It would be great if such a machine could have a "pocket" where you can hookup a Pocket PC and have it play a game.

(choose "Schachcomputer" from the website menu)
If you already have a PPC, I think you could try to purchase the other components only, from them.

I found this on the Pocket Grandmaster website under the support / help file link:
PocketGrandmaster is compatible to the electronic chessboard and chessclock by DGT-projects. It is a very nice tournament-size wooden board with automatic detection of pieces.
Together with your Pocket PC and PocketGrandmaster it makes a perfect stand alone chess computer!
Important note: you need additional hardware to connect the USB-version of the DGT-board, see here.
