Well, UCI version for watching it play against engines of the same league. CSTal would be in Division 5 and I'd watch it fight its way to victory.

It is still possible to get CD's incarnation of cstal and all the whistles. Uci engines are bare contrivances without attraction specially if you can put your hand in the real thing.
I have at least three incarnations
a) the original DOS version and the patches of it
b) a windows version with a somewhat stronger engine
c) a second window version delivered by Purple, the company that bought cstal to Chris.
As much commercially speaking the product is no more, I suppose I could copy this stuff and send it to whoever want it.
Someone consider that dishonest?

Fernando
Interesting proposal :P few weeks ago Ive thought tábout he way to get CST, I love this engine

My proposal is this. Whoever want one, I will send it to him with just one condition. He must pay and send to me any of the listed books -listed by me- at only $5 that are available in Amazon.
In that way my cost of copying and delivering will be payed for a really tiny amount, but still useful for me. And the sender will stay at rest knowing that he is not just a leecher...:-)

My best

I don't mind receiving nothing for the fruits of my labours ;-)

Actually I find a strange attitude to "free" distribution of old software. I remember going to a big trade software show back in the eighties which had stands set up for "user groups", basically one-man bands that had support stuff for defunct computers.
There were two there in particular, one for the Lynx and another for a computer whose name I forget, Memotech, I think. Both were selling a range of copied software, both including commercial stuff that I had written.
I objected mildly and both came up with the same reply: "it's old software for an old computer, you can't sell it anymore, so we're not depriving you of any income and causing you no damage so you can't sue us"

To estimate the CSTal real ratings, Olivier's list shows the ratings of engines as about 200-300 elo lower, So in his rating list, As far as I know, he is the only tester who has tested CSTal against other engines, CSTal is rated 2252 and Romi 2255.

In CCRL Romip3k is 2508, CSTal would be 2505.
And Tony's list has 2642 for Romi, So CSTal would be around 2638.
