Was the White to Black win ratio much different between the 1e4 games and the 1.d4 games?

Yes.

1. e4 => 72.9% for white
1. d4 => 57.6% for white

That's what I suspected. White's advantage is too clearly decisive with no restrictions, but simply forbidding 1.e4 seems to eliminate 2/3 of the advantage. Probably forbidding the next best 3 or 4 opening White moves might make it too close to call.
