Yes, it seems so - not for the first time.

This 110mb server is the biggest crap I've ever seen and I regret that I've made my website there.
If I want to change or upload anything it's even worse, usually I have to wait weeks until I'm able to login into my account.

Now we just need Marty to post an earlier version of MChess Pro and I'd be in chess engine heaven.

Well, posting won't be the problem - I could do this, because I have all those MChess versions in my collection.
The problem is that we would need his permission. ;-)

Hello,

probably it's might be interesting for some user to use original MS-DOS 6.22 with a Virtual Machine (like VMware or VirtualBox). (Yes, everything is legal, because MS offers itself)

So, here we go:

1) Download MS-DOS 6.22 ISO image here: http://www.allbootdisks.com/download/iso.html

2) Create a new VM and configure it for MSDOS

3) Configure the boot sequence to: CD, HD, Floppy

4) Connect the CD-DRIVE to the MSDOS 6.22 ISO image

5) Startup the VM. If you get asked you to connect an image file to the CD, do it again in that dialog

6) After the VM starts, you will end with an A: drive, wich is actually the CD with the MSDOS 6.22 ISO image

7) Execute FDISK and create a primary DOS partition with all the size of the disk, or do whatever partition scheme you want.

8) Restart the VM. At A: prompt execute FORMAT C: /S

9) Execute all these commands:

Code: Select all

C:
MD MSDOS
COPY A:\*.* .\MSDOS /v
COPY A:\CONFIG.SYS
COPY A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
COPY A:\HIMEM.SYS
COPY A:\CD1.SYS
10) Stop VM and change boot order to HD – CD – Floppy

11) Startup your VM and you are ready to go...

optional:

12) Download wchess.iso and connect the CD-DRIVE to the wchess ISO image

13) Switch to CD-DRIVE letter (usualy it's D, my VMware it's R) and start wchess

Daniel

Oops, thanks for this info, Herbert!

That's certainly one more bug of the server when I've updated this file a few days ago (after having tried to login many days).

I've just uploaded the file once more and now it works again.

Regards,
Franz
